This is a wonderful place to stay. The house is large but comfortable in scale, and meticulously renovated. The decorating is interesting, not like a Victorian museum, or frilly, or really "adirondacky" - more like an accumulation of memories. Every room is comfortable and invites you to sit and relax.
Peggy serves a multicourse breakfast that would rival any upscale restaurant and makes sure you eat enough so that you don't run out of energy while hiking or skiing nearby.
They do have dogs, which are friendly and well behaved but if you or your children don't like dogs, its probably not the place to stay. They come with the package!
Olmsteadville is not exactly on the beaten path unless you are headed for Hornbeck Boats, but its really only a short drive to Gore Mountain. There is wifi which only seemed strong in the dining room (so if you are going to waste valuable relaxation time by answering emails, you have to do it in public) and cell phone reception...

This is a great B&B just a short drive (10-15 min) to Gore Mountain for skiing. (We found it through a link on Gore's website for area lodging.) Peg and Barry Mix -- two genuinely nice people -- fully renovated this historic house. On the first floor, there's a large comfortable, Adirondack-style tv-family room with fireplace; quieter Victorian-style sitting room; and large dining rm, and the Mix's kitchen, where Peggy prepares her multi-course breakfast that can almost get you through a full day of skiing. We arrived late -- about 10:30 p.m. -- and Peggy and Barry were unfazed and welcomed us with hot cocoas. Our two teenagers shared the bedroom with two twins, and we shared a room with a full, though next time, we'd take the room with a king, to get a little more space to move around. They have two friendly dogs, but don't take guest dogs, to avoid unhappy canine interactions. Baths are in the hall, but there are enough of them. Rooms were quiet; mattresses were comfy... more
