My husband & I have been coming to the Fire Island Hotel on & off for 30 (we first fell in love there when it was still Flynn's Hotel). The staff is great (especially Patty), and the location (smack dab in the middle of the Island) can't be beat. You can walk through the Sunken Forest, grab a bite in... More

This hotel on Beautiful Fire Island is terrible. With a daily cost of $340. per night you would expect a room door that closes and locks without extensive exercise, a stall shower that leaks all over the floor and a room larger than the average bathroom. ; but not here. The undersized double bed was against the wall so entrance... More

We are sorry for your inconvenience and/or poor experience. If we could build larger rooms we would, and offer larger beds than the full size beds we would, but we can't. Our facility is over 100 years old, it is a retired Coast Guard Station from 60 years ago. We try to offer a guest accomodations as best we can.... More

My first time on on Fire Island, we spent most of the time at the house rented by a family member, but as part of an overlow after-wedding party, we booked two nights at the Fire Island Hotel. We read the TA critical reviews and were prepared for the worst. We stayed in cabin B. And, indeed, from the 60-grit... More

Thank you for your comment on our property. First, I want to say that after many years of trying to get permission to do any work to your cabin that you stayed, we are nearing getting such permit to renovate and hopefully by 2012, we will be able to complete it. The process is extraorniarily long and arduous due to... More

Not only was the ferry ride over enjoyable and relaxing, but as soon as we got off the ferry there was a golf cart waiting with a bellhop to carry all our luggage for us and directed us to the hotel. He was very informative on the nightlife of the area and how to travel around the island. Then upon... More

Stayed a weekend in August with two other couples and their kids, in total we had three rooms. Please note that even though the official Tripadvisor entry shows this property to be in Ocean Beach, it is really in Ocean Bay Park. They are two different places on Fire Island with some significant differences. The Pros: Location to the beach.... More

Just stayed. I can not believe that anyone would think this is worth the money. There was not one surface that was not chipped, cracked, peeling or grimey. Rooms STUNK of dampness due to wall to wall carpet that is at least 30 yrs old. MY BED WAS DAMP WHICH MADE MY PJS DAMP TOO. I got a corner of... More

Sorry for your inconvenience and experience. The carpet is not that old, and given we just expirienced a Hurricane a week prior to your stay and a manditory power shut down and FI evacuation for 4 days, yes, everything was damp and by the time of your stay, it is true, nothing was dry and aired out. In fact, it... More

DONT DO IT!! We were looking for a quick beach getaway from Manhattan..and weren't expecting The Ritz.. But, this was truly painful. The hotel lobby looks like a gas station, everything was filthy. The "restaurant" is a run down tiki hut blasting obnoxious music. Screaming kids everywhere.. An old, Unkept pool with no charm and dirty, grimy, chairs. The room... More

First, we are glad you commented about us. And you are right, we look as if we are part way through a renovation as we are! Our rooms are 1/2 way through an upgrade and we lookk to finish them off with new linens and things this coming 2012 year. As far as kids and families, well we DO try... More

I love this hotel for many reasons. Firstly, it is situated right on the beach in Ocean Bay Park, Fire Island, NY. It also has a large swimming pool with both sun and shade. There is a restaurant/bar on the premises as well. The staff is warm and friendly and always there to help in every way. The rooms have... More

This was a great place to stay for me and my friends on our much looked forward to girl's weekend. The staff was nice and friendly and quick to satisfy any requests. We ate in the restaurant (Huricanes Bar and Grill) and it was delicious! The hotel even sends bellboys down to the ferry dock to pick up your luggage... More

Had a lovely stay with my bestie girlfriends in August. Were there negatives??? Yes. But, the positive did outweigh the negative. As someone who has rented homes before in Fire Island and stayed at other hotels, the Fire Island Hotel hit the spot. Although the room was lacking some charm and could certainly use updates & some fabric softener (scratchy... More
