We stayed in the lovely " La Maison" hotel in Bealieu-Sur-Dordogne Pronounced ( Bowl-U ) this is a very laid back and intimate small hotel, with 5 guest bedrooms all overlooking a peaceful central courtyard. Run by Mr & Mrs Henrit, although Mme Henrit speaks little English and we speak even less French we all managed to have a great chat about the history of this ancient house, evidently one of Napoleons Generals who fought in Mexico loved the architecture so much he had this house built in the Mexican style when he came back from fighting battles hence the unexpected and extremely delightful interior which waits to greet you behind a huge solid wooden door Our room was lovely and had a few interesting antiques dotted around, our bed was very comfortable and we had a en suit with a full length bath no less, breakfast is continental as in most hotels but quite substantial and Mme Henrit’s’ home made jams and jellies are to die for, and after a day of sightseeing and... more
