Having read recent reviews I am surprised about the comment about unfriendly staff! We found all the staff, without exception, to be friendly and helpful and no-one could do enough for us. The rooms are basic but very charming - the bed is a giant fourposter with mosquito nets (we didn't get any mozzy bites at all). Salt water showers... more

I'm not sure how people could find the staff unfriendly at Pongwe??? I find that when you treat people kindly that it is given in return. We found the staff wonderful at Pongwe! We had a beautiful room with a large deck overlooking the ocean. It was a very romantic place and very clean. The meals were lovely. The shower... more

Lovely location, beautiful beach and fairly reasonably priced for what it was. Consists of 16 beach huts with a private beach. The food was excellent but the staff weren't so friendly and the shower the worst we found in Africa - weak and cold salt water (it was meant to be hot - they did fix it in the end... more

It was the perfect ending of our backpacking trip! After 3 weeks camping, the upgrade of our trip in Pongwe was a bit of a cultural shock ;) At the beginning it even felt a bit too much comparing to the rest of Africa we had seen, but our staying was wonderful. it's true the tide doesn't allow swimming all... more

What a perfect way to finish our honeymoon! We had been on safari for 5 days in Tanzania and we were looking forwards to a bit of rest and relaxation, and boy did we get it! The most beautifully located beach hotel, it sits in it's own little cove so when the tide is in you are completely secluded and... more

Pongwe Beach Hotel is simply superb if you want a relaxing laid back holiday in a tropical paradise. We were greeted on arrival by Robert with a welcoming drink and a guide to everything we could expect during our stay. Every member of staff was polite and could not be more helpful and friendly. There were a couple of minor... more

What can I say, we were bowled over from the moment Heidi and Sandy greeted us with a cold flannel and a cocktail with our welcome chat, whilst our luggage was swept of to our room, which was laden with flowers, bubbly, a sarong each, a robe each, beach bag and towels and a flag for when you want drinks... more

We stayed at pongwe as the final part of our honeymoon, and what a way to finish. We had requested Val's room at the end of the beach, and from here we had the most perfect view from our private sun loungers, right along the beach and out to sea. It has to be said we did very little apart... more

From the time we were welcomed into Pongwe, until the day we reluctantly left, we found the staff so helpful and friendly, nothing was too much trouble for them, and they always had a smile. On arrival we were shown around the grounds, after a refreshing drink and cold towel, then taken to our rooms. We had requested Val's & Family... more
