We were 4 Australian staying in Zanzibar for 1 month, and our day trip to chumbe island was an absolute highlight. For $90 per person, we were transferred to and from the island, had an amazing lunch and even had our own bungalow for the day. The snorkeling was incredible. It's a shallow coral reef just offshore with an abundance... More

We were looking for 2 weeks of bliss in the sunshine, and we found it on Chumbe Island! It really is the perfect place, and everyone leaves with happy memories, and wanting to go back: we certainly did. The staff are all genuinely nice, well informed, and completely helpful and the place glows with the feeling that they're doing something... More

Asante, Chumbe, for such a relaxing weekend away! Staff seem to genuinely love their jobs and do them with pride. They were organized, professional and very helpful. The island itself is a gem, with clean, clear, healthy coral reefs bursting with wonderful varieties of wildlife, including massive colourful lobsters, thousands of fish and sea turtles! We even had phosphoresence when... More

For 2 night my partner and I stayed at Chumbe. It was simply magical. Here are a few reasons why you should go, which make it all worth it, regardless of the price: The magnificent surroundings - peaceful and quiet with beautiful birds like the kingfisher and wonderful creatures such as the giant Coconut crab - an endangered species -... I left Chumbe today after an incredible two-night stay. It was perfect: the bungalows are fantastic and wonderful examples of green building techniques, the snorkeling was phenomenal on a healthy reef that visitors help to support, the staff are well-trained and superb, and chef John King's food was fantastic. It's undoubtedly a splurge but very much worth it - both... More

We had the whole island to ourselves, 18 people: 8 aduls and 10 children in the seven bungalows. Grandparents (who came 3 days beforehand to check it out) and offspring. The island is an eco-paradise, the reef a water-wonderland. The entire staff was friendly and efficient and the food great. The rangers were expert and we could snorkel to our... More

If you go to zanzibar, one place you cannot miss is chumbe island, either to stay overnight or to do go for the day snorkeling. One of the most beautiful coral reef in zanzibar, only 14 people allowed per day in this preserved island, a beautiful 100% ecofriendly hotel, excellent food, very knowledgeable and friendly staff, and not for profit... The 3 days and nights on Chumbe are definitely some of our best ever. This is a piece of paradise. Not only because of the incredibly beautiful beaches, the coral reef, the so ingenious eco-huts, but also (maybe most of all) with the most warm and welcoming staff I have ever met. They made our stay (one large extended family... More

Unfortunately we could only spend one night on Chumbe Island because the eco-bungalows were fully booked (in February 2011) by an extended family from Christmas Day until the New Year. Obama, Chumbe's wonderful Hospitality Manager, and his very professional staff (particularly Park Ranger, Juma 5) made our 24hr stay something special! We squeezed in the walk in the forest, snorkelling,... More
