I stayed here for a week while working with a range of projects across Embu, Mbeere and Kiringyaga. And it was exactly what we needed! We took rooms in the 101 - 103 group. They were more than adequate. We had breakfast and dinner in the restaurant each day, and after some very long days it was great to get... More

I have stayed at the Izaak Walton every couple of years for the last 12 years and always love returning to the beautiful gardens and grounds. The rooms are simple and the bathrooms badly in need of investment but the friendly staff and stunning gardens more than make up for it. In fact the service seemed more polished and switched... The rooms have been run down and are of low standard (more like a lodging). Hot water not guaranteed in all rooms. They need serious renovation or get new competition! Their marketing edge which is the history of the place is getting overshadowed by the fact that it looks quite run down. Service is slow though the food is ok.

We Stopped over on our way from Meru to have dinner then proceed to Nairobi. The service was good and the lady who was serving us (Rose i think) seemed friendly. The food came on time as promised after 35 or so minutes Everyone had something different to eat and they all agreed the food was good The seating space... More

The hotel is well located and accessible. The meals i must say were good. I have been here a number of times and unfortunately the standard has been dropping over the years. The rooms are run down. My room 104 had some plumbing issues while my colleagues room was damp. I think that the place has a lot of potential... More

This hotel can actually use a standby generator if its not too much trouble. the staff are friendly and efficient. but rooms which are seemingly under renovation could do with a coat of paint as the one i slept in was peeling off. also invest in something to warm the rooms as this place gets really cold at night. but... This is my 3rd time here, simply because I had no choice, and every time I come here, the feeling is the same - way below standards, I cannot even give a rating, just felt that I should lobby for improvement and management have to know this; 1. The rooms are so run down, I will post pictures shortly. 2.... More

Travelling in Africa it is all relative. This has a clean and large swimming pool, friendly staff, good breakfasts and cold beers. The gardens are peaceful. The rooms are variable. Lively poolside bar on the weekends frequented by locals as well as guests. Popular for conferences, press launches and meetings. If you get a room near the road then road... More

On my first visit to Embu, I was booked at the Izaak Walton Inn. I had higher expectations than what I found and experienced. Maintenance of some amenities are really wanting. A fresh coat of paint is much needed on the walls. The ambience is rather dull. We're it not for the natural surrounding it would be unbearable. As the... More
