Went camping here over Memorial Day weekend. Very clean campground, nice rangers. The lake itself is beautiful and clean and you can rent canoes and kayaks for the day. The campgrounds are nicely groomed and the firepits have grates that you can pull down to cook on. There are plenty of trees for shade and each "loop" in the campground... More

I have been camping at Mongaup Pond virtually every year for the last 15 years. I grew up camping, sometimes twice a year, in the Smokey Mountain National Forest with my father. Mongaup Pond is creating the same kind of memories with my family that I was lucky enough to have as a child. The campground is quiet, especially in... More

Mongaup is one of the most beautiful campsites I've been to. The lake is perfect for rowing and swimming. Many tall, lovely trees provide plenty of shade. Variety of flowers, well-kept grass and clean facilities tell you how dedicated the staff is in caring for the place. There's an excellent hiking trail that takes you to a hidden pond with... More

I am a tried and true New Hampshire White mtn lover. However, driving up from Florida and looking at time restraints from my kids and their kids - I knew I had to find a closer area. I am somewhat familiar with the Catskills but had never heard of Mongaup. My 1971 edition NY Walkbook doesn't even show Mongaup! Anyway,... More

We had traveled close to 2 hours to stay at Mongaup Pond, August 9-11, 2014. The children were excited and we couldn't wait to relax and unwind. We arrived at 11:00 am but check-in was at 12:00 pm. The young man and woman at the registration booth seemed to be annoyed with us. A friendly greeting is the first impression... More

My family and I have been coming to this camp ground for the past 15 years. However, this past two years I have detected two things that I didn't like the ducks poop all over the beach-lake area nobody cleans it. I had to clean it myself so my kids can swim and play with the sand. I felt very... More

Our first time camping with our 4 and 7 year olds, and we wanted it to be very special. Mongaup is truly special. From the moment you are greeted by the professional, kind staff at the booth, you realize they have this thing down. You can get firewood and trail maps, and they have your reservation in their computer, it... More

For someone who appreciates rustic camping, this was a great campground. No cell phone service, and nothing to do except to enjoy nature!! I was only there one night, but it was a very clean and well-kept campground. I would definitely stay here again if I wanted to explore the Catskills (which I do)!

I have been coming to Mongoup since the 70's with my parents, now I bring my kids. Nice sites which are situated a decent distance apart. Very quiet for the most part, rangers keep the rules in check. Lakefront sites are the best, but not a bad sit in the place. I drive 5.5 hours to get to this destination,... More
