Castle Mandawa towers above the small city, with a series of imposing entry gates leading you into the main courtyard - it's a dramatic approach through narrow crowded streets, and just the sort of experience most of us are seeking in these out-of-the-way areas. Like other Fort/Palace hotels (the one in Neemrana, for instance) much can depend on the room... More

We arrived in Mandawa and our coach had to stop in a backstreet full of cows and what comes out of them! We were then led through side streets until we arrived at this incredible building. It is just so huge with restored and derelict parts all oozing history. Every bedroom is unique and most of our party were in... More

We stayed for 1 night at this hotel - which is a converted fort - as part of our golden triangle/Shimla tour. Regrettably we had just 16 hours here - leaving at 6am because (so our Indian Tour Guide said) our coach would be pelted with stones during our trip through the villages to the main highway, if we had... You have to walk the last few yards to the hotel. We were greeted by drummers, camels and horses. Our room in their restored castle was huge. All the rooms are different. The staff were friendly and attentive. Dinner was served outside on the lawns. Our stay was an unforgettable experience.

This is a luxury hotel that is let down by its boring food. If you stay here don't eat here, the entertainment was embarrassing just staff not real musicians. The management were also grumpy, other staff helpful. Why such a wealthy company have to employ staff from outside the area is beyond me. We won't use this company again.

Simply a wonderful place in well restored castle, literally on every corner there is something to discover! Everything is lovingly maintained and decorated, many small details add to the perfect ambience. Whether lobby area, bar, room or pool, it is time again thrilled and may take part in many different designs do not see enough. In the evening, a magnificent... More

It is an imposing site driving through the gateway to the castle/hotel. Met by 2 smart porters i thought it boded well for a good nights stay. The greeting at reception was not great, we were then assigned our room a long way from the main hotel, it looked like an add on and was a huge 1st floor room... More

After a 8 hour drive from Delhi, it was good to step out of our tour car onto the desert sands of the hotel car park. The hotel is in part of the old fort or castle and if one wants to see some of the wall paintings that this area is famous for, you can certainly view them in... More

We were given the room with the four poster bed, sitting area, terrace and modern refurbished bathroom. It was wonderful. The staff were friendly and helpful. The evening buffet seemed to be catering to European palates - so a little on the bland side but perfectly acceptable. The breakfast was excellent with a good choice of Indian and European styles.... Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Like many historic homes, Castle Mandawa is a curious mixture of the old and the new. Medieval turreted towers, palanquin-roofed balconies, blend with modern comforts in old-world rooms. Family portraits, antique cannons and arms add to the charm of this family-run resort where tradition still runs strong. Today, the world comes to this storybook town to see its colourful frescoes on every subject under the sun, that is, ranging from the religious to the erotic; from copies of popular English prints to witty social satire, rendered in the inimitable style of the local artist. And perhaps the best place to discover the legacy of Shekhawati is from the comfort of Castle Mandawa, a fortress, now converted into a luxurious heritage hotel. Explore Castle Mandawa at your own pace. Spend a leisurely hour over a drink in the colonial verandah that accommodates the bar, or relax in the cosy comfort of the Diwankhana, the formal drawing room decorated with family portraits and an array of antique armour. ... more   less
