We stayed here for 3 nights camping in our own tent - but there are room and permanent tent options. The shower facilities are basic, but adequate. The bar is really nice with lovely sunset views and they do decent food too. It is easy to organise activities such as rafting, fishing, and sunset cruises.

We stayed there for one night after doing the rafting activity with them. It is very far from the center so if you want to take a boda then walk down the road and you will pay half price or even less. The rolex omelette sandwich right at the exit are pretty good. The place itself felt dirty and completely... More

Hi LeCacoin, Sorry you found your stay with us disappointing. The low season also corresponds with the rainy season and it is very hard to keep anything looking clean when dealing with Jinja red mud - same can be said about the reservoir. Happy travels Leslie More

I've visited Explorers River Camp on many occasions over the last few years and it just keeps getting better. The location is really beautiful, and the wild life is prolific and diverse - ranging from huge fish eagles to tiny kingfishers, red tailed colobus monkeys, monitor lizards and otters..... I can highly recommend renting a paddle board or a sit... More

We traveled to Uganda just for 3 nights to white water raft the Nile and we stayed at the explorers river camp. We had one of the tents overlooking the river (it's one of the more expensive places at $30 per night per tent) - it's got everything a backpacker needs, including privacy. View is amazing. The communal area (or... More

We stayed here as part of an overland trip through Uganda. Instead of putting up our own tents, we decided to stay in one of the permanent safari tents they have on site. These were comfortable and spacious, and it was much better sleeping in one of these which had permanent beds off the floor. The toilet amenities were basic... More

Stayed a double tent (worth it for the extra space), overlooking the Nile River. Cute table-and-chair set-up in the front so you can enjoy the view and some quiet private time. A bit of a walk, and steps to traverse, to get to the bathroom though. Early morning gardening/cleaning/sweeping is an annoying wakeup. Tent can be zipped and padlocked and... More

The noise from the bar here is absolutely atrocious. On the weekends and any busy times this is basically a nightclub with some accommodation -- the music is incredibly loud into the early hours. It is like trying to sleep in the middle of a nightclub, the music deafening and bass pulsing. The location is nice, however, so during the... More

Hi waqi_thirteen, We are sorry you did not enjoy your stay at our camp, however most of our guests enjoy the party atmosphere and we do have a strict policy of closing the bar at 01:00 am. We have taken note of your comments regarding the mosquito nets and are currently replacing and/or repairing any that are damaged. Cheer Leslie More

Jacques and Celia run a superb camp site. They offer safari tents, dormitories and en suite rooms as well as facilities to pitch your own tent. I stayed in an en suite room which was simple but clean. The site has the most amazing setting overlooking the Nile, and Peter and his team run the bar and food really well,... More

What a beautiful and lovely camp site. We were in awe upon arrival. The view of the Nile is so special here, especially when enjoyed with a slushy on the patio overlooking the river. Don’t miss out on the open air showers near the water. The facilities are clean, modern, and well taken care of. HOT HOT showers, power, and... More

This park could well be described as "a camp site inside a bar"   the late closing hours of the bar and the encouragement of patrons to party on is a serious disadvantage of this otherwise attractive, clean and well situated camping park. It has beautiful views over the river. They organised a great evening river cruise and had lots of... More

Hi JED52, We apologise for your 'appalling sleep'. Explorers River Camp has always had a reputation of being a party venue and in many cases it is the adrenaline of a days ratting that fuels the party, but we do have a strict policy that the bar at the camp shuts at 01:00 am. There are however other bars in... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Fantastic views of the Nile, a well stocked bar and excellent meals have made this site one of East Africa’s most popular places to stay. Whether you are camping, staying in dormitories or rooms, our bar deck overlooking the river is the perfect place to enjoy a cold beer and amazing sunsets. The trees above boast a multitude of tropical bird life and the ‘riverside showers’ alone have become famous for the incredible scenery they overlook. Lush terraces offer secluded safari tents with stunning views of the River Nile. Secure and cozy with fresh linen at your disposal, they have become extremely popular. Numbers are limited so it is strongly advised you book well in advance. In addition to our terraced safari tens we now offer standard safari tents in the main camping area. ... more   less
