Hip place to hang out with friendly staff and a great view over second beach. Rooms are clean and well specked. New owners doing a great job. Good for a few days chill and hanging around Port St Johns.

We were a group of 6 that stayed at Amapondo for 2 nights. And we enjoyed it so much. It was very peaceful and a great environment to relax. It was the start of our holiday before we did the 5 day hike to Coffeebay. The staff was very friendly and showed us some of the local attractions. The dog(Nandi)... More

Absolutely brilliant spot! Outstanding natural beauty combined with a friendly and warm welcome makes for a near perfect backpacking experience. This place is perfect for a few days of total chillout. Went for a night and ended staying for 3! Maybe not the cleanliest of places, but if you manage to put that aside, there's nothing to keep you from... More

Hi, thanks for your comments and I am glad you had a good time here. You mentioned that Amapondo may not have been that clean whilst you were here. I have recently bought the business and it did go through a period where there was a lack of care for finer details. This resulted from a change of ownership and... More

I share the same feeling as a lot of people who were there : Don't look too closely at the cleanliness and bring your own sheets or sleeping bag, the smell of the beds in dormitories can make you want to go sleeping on the beach. Same for the fridge's smell... it will take away your appetite. Dorms are of... More

Hi, thanks for your comments. I would like to let you know that my wife and I (Neil and Amanda) have just bought Amapondo only a few weeks ago. We have been focusing specifically on cleaning the place up because when we bought it recently, it was feeling quite unloved and a bit run down. I guarantee you that if... More

I had an awesome experience at Amapondo and loved the friendly staff. Its a great place to stay with a variety of rooms including dormitories, double rooms, and also private cottages. The food was great, the atmosphere was lovely, and they even organized a Full Moon Party, which was great fun. And on one of the days they organized a... More

Amapondo is nothing but awesome. Winding your way through the beautiful Port St Johns you suddenly arrive at this picturesque, idyllic backpackers situated on the slopes of a hill overlooking the river mouth, second beach, coral trees and natural forest. I just got back from an amazing weekend at Amapondo in Port St Johns. I did not stop smiling from the moment I arrived. The atmosphere and the views (from everywhere in Port St Johns) are brilliant. We ended up staying an extra day and really wanted to stay for another day/week/year/lifetime. We stayed in one of the chalets which... More

My husband and I sprung for the Turtle Cove delux cabin, it was lovely, with big beautiful windows with amazing ocean/jungle views, a nice big bathtub with (slow) running hot water, a nice porch and kitchenette. It really was a gem and we loved it! Unfortunately, at this time of year, we did have to cope with some rat problems.... More
