The hotel is adequate. A bit dingy, but definitely plenty nice enough. The big problem with this place is the noise. They have a bar behind the hotel (at the pool) that plays loud music well into the night. If the music is off you hear the patrons yelling and drinking--which is fine, just not when it interferes with guests'... More

We stayed one night at the Credo and were disappointed. Service was friendly, but it is slightly more expensive then Hotel Ibis in town and a fair bit dingier. I've heard from other expats that they liked it, so perhaps our room was particularly neglected. Musty smell, no mosquito net, shower had barely any pressure and got water everywhere (if... More

I think there are four, or maybe even five, room categories here. We opted for one of the next-to-highest one, which was still not terribly pricey--clean and tidy, with a balcony. (Highest option: crazy-huge but slightly beat-up suite.) Our friends opted for the lowest option, and if there had been more available rooms, we would've taken this too. They were... More

Stayed here two nights as individual travellers after some time on the road in Burundi. We were dusty and so it was good to find a decent pool in Butare. The Credo is a little "used", but obviously still in good demand, as it sits conveniently on the main road towards the university. Don't expect European standards when it comes... More

This is the only hotel in town that has a swimming pool which after a day in the heat can be a relief. We had not planned to stay in Butare / Huye and checked out the hotel in passing. The place lacks any atmosphere with a maze of corridors and fluorescent lights everywhere. However it is clean and the... More

We had thought we would stop at the Hotel Ibis but the main part of it was under construction and the units available in the back were a little worn looking. We then looked at the Hotel Credo and it seemed a bit better. It was clean and when I said we wanted 2 beds they gave me a little... More

In June 2012, I visited the National University of Rwanda in Butare. I landed in Kigali at night and the drive to Butare was three hours long. The drive wasn't terrifying but it was a bit scary mainly because of horribly bright headlights, which though in a way made up for the absolute darkness around. At Hotel Credo, a well-built... More

This place seems very nice - rooms are roomy, price is OK, staff are very friendly. Unfortunately, so are the rats. I woke up to find one in my room rifling through my bag to get to a banana. Unimpressed.

We were put up there by the University during our visit on two occasions. It was okay except for the staff trying to shake us down for extra money (about $70.00) because I brought my wife. Breakfast is supposed to be included in the room although my wife had to pay. This is served on an outdoor patio where you... More

My husband and I stayed here for 4 nights in May. We didn't think the rooms were good value for the price, the bed linen and bathrooms were tired and grubby. The food was slow and uninspired, one ham and cheese sandwich was particularly vile. I recommend Hotel Ibis as the best spot in town for food. The laundry service... More
