The Motel du Mont Huye is not the place to go looking for luxury accommodations. It is, however, excellent value for comfortable rooms in a charming locale compared to the rest of Butare. It's a fairly quiet little oasis in an otherwise slightly aggressive city. The rooms are quite basic but had everything I needed. I was in room 6... More

I work with students at the University of Rwanda in Butare and often have to be there overnight. I think this is the best little motel there. It's just off the main road by the heart of town (but a 5 minute walk from campus.) Close to everything but far enough off the road it's quiet. The rooms are very... More

The real advantages to Motel du Mont Huye are: 1) it's off the main drag and very quiet, 2) there is a restaurant on site, and 3) the patios; they are lovely. The disadvantages are: 1) the rooms are really not maintained very well, 2) there is - apparently - no daily housekeeping service - which I'm fine with if... More

Excellent choice travelling through Butare. The rooms are basic and a bit "tired", but there was hot water in the shower, mosquito net and a place to charge your mobile. This is not the place to run around and take photos of the interior decorations, but its got everything you need for a comfortable stay for a limited time.

Totally loved my stay there. The staff were so very helpful, very limited english so be mindful of translating. Price was right, room was nice and I had a shower with reliable hot water. Will definitely stay again if I travel to Butare!

My husband and I stayed here while waiting to move into our house. The rooms are basic, but clean. The "free" breakfast includes three pieces of toast and some jam, coffee or African tea. Omelets can be ordered for extra cost. The staff is extremely friendly. The restaurant is also simple, but serves very good local food.

Simple, clean and safe accommodation that is centrally located - internet cafe is a 2 minute walk from the Motel. The staff are exceptionally friendly and the showers are always hot because of solar heating. The free breakfast included with the room fee is very basic (bread, jam and tea/coffee) and you might want to buy breakfast if you're looking... More

Everyone was so nice here, the food was good--the bread and jam at breakfast are homemade!--and the rooms, beds, and bathrooms were clean. Our room (#13) had reliable hot water, though the other people in our group noted that they weren't able to get hot water in their rooms. The beds were pretty comfortable. The bed nets could use a... I've stayed at the hotel several times during my relationship with the local primary school rehabilitation, and it keeps getting better. During the rainy season, the landscaping is lush and inviting even if the roads are muddy and full of puddles. There are mosquito nets in every room, and water is solar heated and is in adequate supply if everyone... More

This is easily as good, if not better than, other accommodation in Rwanda that costs twice as much or more. I stayed here on two separate nights without booking either, just turned up and asked for a room. Everything is simple but clean and tidy, there is hot water (not always the case in Rwanda) and a generator to keep... More
