There are an increasing number of "Kasbahs:" to choose from along the edge of the Sahara dunes in Merzouga now that the road has been paved. Tinerhir is a city whose atmosphere I liked, with a kind of "last frontier" feeling to it. This is also true for the Kasbah Tomboctou, in a sense. beautiful hotel, built to look like an old fort - with a swimming pool and meals served in a tent. we went in the middle of winter with no other guests, and the staff were very accomodating. convenient location within walking distance of the city centre and markets and with its own locked and secure parking lot a couple blocks... more
