The staff was really friendly, nice and helpful. The rooms were really basic. If you are there for one night it is fine. For more than one night, find another place. Three of us in two different rooms had awful bites and not mosquitos either. The reception is not open all night, fyi. We arrived late and needed to wait... More

We were booked into a good room category at Lal Hotel for Timkat festival. We arrived in the evening and the friendly and smiling personnel took our luggage and showed us to the "bungalows" where our room was. When after what felt like 5 minutes of walking, we arrived at our room (#41), what we found was the lowest room... More

Very basic room without any toiletries or drinking water. We even had to ask for a roll of toilet paper. Even though the rooms are located around kind of a park, they are quite noisy, since a cultural restaurant with shows until 10 p.m. every night, the laundry etc. are located within the park and opposite most of the rooms.... We got to sleep in a room that had the charm of a cell: Two beds and that's it. No soap bar in the bathroom, no drinking water, no coat hangers, nothing. The rooms are all situated around kind of a park in the middle of which is a traditional restaurant. The nightly shows with music and drums last until... More

The good times of the Lal Hotel in Lalibela seem to be over. The lobby area and restaurant are quite good, but our room was run down with not working doors, loose washbasin, peeling wall colors etc.. Wlan was not working, dinner and breakfast are upgradeable. Fortunately everything was clean and people friendly. All in all poor standard.

The rooms and main building are nice and clean (except for animals in the bungalows from time to time) but if you want to book higher comfort forget it. Sauna & Spa didn't work, Massage was not available. Payment by credit card was in the end not accepted (something was broken) the staff was nice but not helpful at all... More

Dear Sir/Madamme, We are very sorry for your encounter. As we are facing difficulty with our limited network provider, we couldn't be able to meet the standard traffic of our clients request. The same thing goes for payment by credit card. But we surely are working on our waiting hours to prevent any inconveniences for the future. The Management More

First stayed in the Lal in 2007 when it really was basic accommodation but they have now built a new reception and round Lalibela style rooms. The food was never great but this is what you must expect as they try to offer non Ethiopian food but never really quite get it. Everybody is very friendly and helpful and we... More

Not only did they not have any Ethiopian food but the food on the menu was a rip off. I asked for a Singapore fried noodles and I got a single serving of instant ramen. The veggie pizza was soggy and overflowing with toppings. And the prices were exorbitant. The stupid fountain and the grand interiors does not make this... More

Everything about this place was wonderful, It was not lavish, but was well-apportioned. The rooms were clean, all of the appliances and plumbing worked, the beds were comfortable, and they went out of their way to accommodate our two children, age 7 and 9, bringing in two extra beds for them. The staff was extremely attentive. The view from the... More
