The Lal Hotel is one of the few large hotels in Lalibela and its prime feature is the excellent service of its manager, Bobby, and his very friendly and helpful staff. We held two workshops at the hotel for about 60 people over a week, with about 25 of those people staying there for that whole week. It was really... More

We have stayed in the hotel for two nights and we have actually felt at home. The entire staff, no one excluded, was very nice, always smiling and ready to take care of our needs. Even the driver of the airport shuttle is very nice and responsible while driving, which is not so common in Ethiopia. We also thank Molla... More

Nice hotel, one of the better ones I had the oppurtunity to stay in whilst in Ethiopia. The rooms were clean and nice, wifi worked in the lobby and garden (not in rooms), the shower wasn't too bad (occasional cold water bursts, but thats standard in Ethiopia), and the breakfastwas ok. However, as a feedback to the hotel, here are... More

In my visit to Lalibela last June, I was summoned by a young man at the airport to stay at the Lal Hotel. From its massive compound to the impressive traditionally-designed room I stayed in, I was pleasantly surprised during my stay for one I didn’t expect a resort hotel in one of the most ancient cities in the world.... I believe they have more rooms than the other hotels, they had a few tour groups of older German folks. I paid around $46 USD per night for a single tukul room which included a hot breakfast, wireless access, shuttle in from airport (normally 70 birr). For $60 you could use the amneities like the pool (the only one in... More

The LAL Hotel is in a great location, within walking distance of Lalibela's rock-hewn churches, as well as the Saturday market. The facilities themselves are excellent quality, with spacious rooms (some with views of the valley), a pleasant garden to relax in, a restaurant that serves great food, and the only pool in town. But best of this hotel is... More

In May 2014, I had the unexpected opportunity of staying at the LAL hotel in Lalibela, Ethiopia. Just before, I stayed a couple of nights in the same town in a hotel which cost several dollars per night less than LAL. However, LAL offered a significantly higher standard, comfort and cleanliness. I was extremely pleased by the value for money... More

This hotel may be the best value for the money - significantly less expensive than Tukal which is right across the street and the rooms are almost identical - and you can access both restaurants if you want. The owner / manager was very helpful and accommodating when we called for quotes to book. They offered one free airport transfer... More

Nice play to stay. Rooms were clean and tidy. Mattresses were a little hit and miss with some being hard and others soft. Restaurant was being refurbished so seating was out doors so we ate elsewhere for the evening meal. I would stay here again.
