Abbey Minch is situated in lush grounds on the outskirts of Bahir Dar. The hotel consists of spacious semi-detached rondavels dotted about the grounds and connected by stones paths. The rooms are spacious and the beds comfortable. The bathrooms were reasonable but had definitely seen better days (we had to have ours cleaned because the washbasin was covered with monkey... More

We're used to African hotels, and all that is good and bad. Firstly, this hotel would be okay if they were charging $60/night - but they are charging much more and it is a disgrace. Rooms are dirty and poorly equipped, staff are inefficient (pizzas took over an hour to arrive every time) and rude. The owner, in Addis apparently,... More

Price of the rooms is far too high for the quality of the property. The price is level to the top-end places in Lalibela and Gondar, with poor maintenance, poor cleanliness, badly trained staff, and poor food taking hours to arrive if at all,... More specifically: electric wires hanging down showers, bugs in lights fixtures, no record of our reservations,... More

All my reviews of hotels in Ethiopia are ranked against each other after a month's travelling and not ranked against western hotels. Rooms are set in thatched bungalows in nicely set out grounds. Rooms were clean and beds comfortable. As with most Ethiopian hotels there is no double glazing so the church prayers are audible, long and loud. Shower was... More

Abay Minch Lodge is a very pretty bunch of bungalows, amidst a nicely maintained garden, with lots of tropical trees, flowers and birds. The rooms themselves are decent. The showers were probably installed without thinking about the water- pressure in Ethiopia, so the various fixtures don't work. When we got to the hotel the rooms were being cleaned, and in... More

We were a team of 5 volunteers working in Gondar for Vision Aid Overseas and having a mid programme, two night break in Bahir Dar. We had a family room with three beds for the three women and a twin room for the two men. Both were excellent - the family room having two bathrooms. Showers a bit over the... More

The bungalows are all nested among the trees; rooms clean and comfortable and service very good and friendly. Bahir Dar is situated on the shores of Lake Tana with a short trip to the Falls on the Blue Nile. A boat cruise on the Lake Tana to visit monasteries dating back to the 14th century is a must as is... More

The hotel is a collection of bungalows in a sub-tropical garden with a river flowing in its back yard - very beautiful. It's also quiet. The food is decent. The maintenance level is pretty much what you'd expect in Ethiopia: when we were there the wifi didn't work and the shower-massage was broken, but fortunately, there was hot water :)... More

Although the grounds are very nice I probably would have preferred to stay in the city as it is a bit out so it is extra effort to not eat at the hotel - which was not great. Beer is cold though which is always important. The rooms are clean and comfortable enough but I prefer my showers not to... More

The Abay Minch Lodge is comprised of side-by-side duplex cottages situated in a forested area just a few minutes ride outside of urbanized Bahar Dar. The forest and gardens provide ample space for quiet walks, bird watching, observing the local colobus monkeys, and enjoying the music and dancing of local marriage parties who take advantage of Abay Minch's beautiful surroundings...
