My husband and I were looking forward to a few nights in Bahir Dar but were very put off by the first place we looked at (Ghion Hotel). We happened to walk past Dib Anbessa and decided to have a look despite the fact that it looked a touch “upmarket”. What a great find! We loved it, had a lovely,... More

The entrance and restaurant are nice, the views are ok, the rooms are worn out and the bathrooms are terrible. When we took the room, we had two main criterias: do you have wifi in the rooms and do you have hot water? "Yes of course". Of course once we paid in advance, the receptionist then told us the wifi... More

Before I arrived in Bahir Dar I had read the negative reviews here but foolishly disregarded them as picky westerners expecting a five star hotel in the middle of Africa. If Lonely Planet recommends it, it can't be bad, right? Yeah.... Wrong. I stayed in two different rooms, both were filthy and crawling with mosquitoes. One of them did not... More

So this must have been a really grand place a few decades ago. The architecture is impressive relative to the majority of Bahir Dar stock and some of the interior details such as the beautiful wood carved dining room are amazing. BUT the rooms and stairwells etc are so so so so in need of renovation. And the staff were... More

So I actually did not stay at this hotel so I can not actually rate the place. However I did want to warn people about a scam that may occur to you if you enter this hotel. When I arrived to Bahir Dar I wanted to stop in a hotel and ask for help getting to Gondar by mini bus.... More

This place is very dingy for its price. The location is great, but that's where it all stops. At 350 birr you get a single room without hot water. Cable tv is not compensating that. At least there is free wifi in the lobby. The breakfast is terrible and you're better off eating outside. The tours they offer are overpriced.... More

It is hard to find anything positive about the rooms of this hotel: they are old and worn out. If you are planning to spend a lot of time in the hotel room, this definitely is not the one to choose. There are, however, some good things about this hotel: the lobby has old-fashioned, decorated wooden ceiling, giving it nice... More

This hotel has only one thing going for it: location. The rooms are worn and full of fleas and insects, and there always seems to be something broken. The restaurant is surprisingly good, however, and the location is lovely.

For some reason this hotel seems to be very popular with international visitors. However, I found it grubby and out-dated, poorly lit with cheaply carved wooden furniture and furnishings out of the 1960s. The corridors are lined with ragged strips of burgundy ‘carpet’, the rooms are old-fashioned and in a poor state of repair. Mine had a rigged up electric... More

Decent enough place with a great location close to Lake Tana. The water is hit and miss which is annoying but not the end of the world. The view of the main street is nice and if you are on the 1st level (what we call 2nd level in NA) you can see the Lake. The restaurant is decent as... More
