We stayed there for one night, 4/25. When we got there, we found out that there was no hot water, so we told the front desk. The first response was that they will have the handy man look at it for my room. Once we came back for dinner, we found out there was still no hot water. They told... More

I apologize to this guest for the inconvenience, and true, a hot water tank had developed a leak, was replaced as quickly as we could get a plumber on site to install it, then we found that the switch from the furnace to the tank was defective and so no hot water. It took several days with a replacement switch... More

All I needed was a comfy place to stay in for my interview at Cornell. This place was the closest (5-8 min. walk) and the cheapest, with free Wifi and great service. My room was very nice, with a big bed, clean private bathroom, and a desk. The room was well heated all day&night, so I couldn't really tell it... More

Just for the sole purpose of walking to Cornell, this hotel should be enough. No fancy harwares or softwares, but I got over my Cornell interview without spending the previous night worrying about the logistics of the next day. My friend took me to a pizza place which seemed to be a usual hangout for Cornell students. However, this pizza... More

I stayed last summer for two weeks at the Hillside Inn in Ithaca and have to say that i disagree with the previous comments since except through air bnb it is very difficult to find a place to stay around at that price + the walking distance to the university is a real plus !

Good lord, when rooms are described as quaint, run the other way. We booked late for Cornell's parents' weekend so this was the only place we could find. The "ice bucket" was a tupperware bowl! The rooms have not been updated since the 1970's. One nightstand was actually a radiator with a metal lattice cover and a lamp perched on... More

For those who prefer to pay double to triple our rates, and stay well out of walking distance to Cornell, in a downtown hotel, and don't mind paying extra for Wi Fi minutes and other room amenities, we are not the right fit. If one is however conscious of one's budget, wants a quiet and friendly stay close to the... More

Wow where to even begin... This place is down right scary. We thought when we booked the hillside inn seemed like a good deal. We lost out in the end. The Halls smelled of old chinese food and the floors creaked. When we got to our room it was tiny, dirty and very out dated. Not in a cute vintage... More

Separating fact from fiction ("creaky, scary"), the hotel was and is nearly full occupancy including visitors from China (the food), grad students, scholars, and tourists from various countries, all Cornell-oriented, or touring the Fingerlakes and en route to Niagara Falls, in the safest quietest neighborhood in Ithaca. We inspected the room as soon as the review was posted (it was... More

Tiny cramped rooms, very uncomfortable mattress and awful pillows. Old and crummy condition all around, depressing really. They said one room could sleep three people and they threw a bedroll on the floor between two twin beds. Really?!?

Peter S, General Manager at Hillside Inn, responded to this review

When the room was booked, only two twins were available and it was made known that a cot would be put in for a third person. It was not promoted otherwise. Granted these are not the spacious rooms of the highway-side chains, but the mattresses/beds are replaced frequently, as frequently as any other hotel would. There are the expectations of... More

I live in NYC, but typically once or twice per year I crave Ithaca. I keep Hillside Inn on speed dial for these moments -- you won't find a water wall or lounge music, but you'll find a clean, comfortable bed, fast internet, and all the breakfast, lunch, or dinner options you could ask for in Cornell's Collegetown two blocks... This was the worst hotel experience I have ever had. When I returned from downtown to get in the bed I saw TWO HAIRS in the sheets and something brown that resembled a mouse turd. I am not sure if they even had washed the sheets. I slept on top of the bed, on top of a towel and hopefully... More

The Hillside Inn is what it is. It is not a four star hotel, but it is to me. It is outdated, and the bathrooms are small. BUT the loaction and service are outstanding. That is all I need. I usally stay here for Cornell lacrosse games. I can walk to the game. I can walk to dinner. I can... More
