Our third safari and our second time to Zambia. We stayed at some excellent camps but Chongwe House is magic. We travel at least 4 to 5 times a year to luxury places in Asia, M.E., Africa and Europe but the House is in my top 3 of most favorite ones ever stayed at. Staying in a private house gives... More

Incredible place to stay on your travels, the wildlife comes to you including an elephant coming to have a drink from the pool. If you want a choice of what to do and when to do it - this is the place for you. Wonderful setting so close to everything with knowledgable and hospitable staff - we are planning to... More

When we first arrived at Chongwe, we were greeted by a herd of elephants ambling around the grounds and one was even drinking from the pool! The next night we were called in early from our lovely "Sundowner" river cruise because there was a leopard a few minutes drive from the house up in a tree feasting on a kill.... More

Our Zimbabwe-Zambia safari ended with several days at this amazing wholly open-to-the-outside small lodge. Initially we felt some panic at the openness but soon relaxed as we realized that the builders of Chongwe River House has essentially succeeded in creating the sense that we were one with the river and the outdoors. Our three adults and two 9-year-olds were the... More

We stayed in Cassia which is their honeymoon suite. It's wonderful...The location of Chongwe is also the most scenic of all the camps along the Zambezi in that sits on the clonfluence of that river and the chongwe. The food here was the best we had all trip and Florence and her staff are lovely. We also stayed at chiawa... More

We were so lucky to be in the Flinstones Grotto as we called this wonderful House, just the 3 of us. Fantastic Managers, Clem and Brandon, service from Kennedy(morning) and Francis(afternoon/night). The food produced by Moffat and Patrick was outstanding nothing was too much, everything was done for us. Mario our guide took us fishing and took us to his... More

The title says it all. Chongwe River House was the perfect ending to our trip. I can only describe it as "rustic luxury". The house is everything that it is famous for, and more! Crazy design (in a good way), beautiful location and setting, and just a wonderful staff that is friendly, accommodating and makes you feel right at home.... More

This is one of the most amazing places in the world. The service from very professional staff cannot be faulted, (there were 10 staff members looking after 4 of us!) The open-fronted house, described by one of our party as a mix of the Flintstones and the Dorchester, is located amongst Winterthorn trees a few yards from the Chongwe River.... More

We had Lions roaring what seemed to be on the front lawn, Elephants came visiting us - we didn't have to go looking for them, Tiger fishing on the Zambezi pretty good considering the time of the year, we were well looked after by all the staff - this was our second visit and we will certainly be going back... We were lucky enough to have the entire house to our group of four so we had a pick from the rooms, its a tough decision as there are many quirky features in the rooms, a rain shower or a waterfall shower was a tricky one, so I alternated showers in the evening and tried them all. On the first... More
