We camped here for 3 nights around New Years Eve, although after our first night we were upgraded to a dorm when space became available which was a nice touch and very welcomed! It's a beautiful location on the lake in Nkhata Bay, ever so dramatic positioned on the side of a hill! It's very refreshing to see the lake... More

Sprawled on a hill straight on the edge of lake Malawi you will find a campsite and lodge that offers spots to camp and chalets with an amazing view over the bay. The place got a restaurant with free wifi and definetely acepptable prices. The food is good and the beer is cold, it's a perfect place for chilling. The... More

Mayoka Village is an absolute must for backpackers, self-drivers..everyone traveling to Nkhata Bay. The staff were tremendously helpful and kind, the rooms are beautifully located overlooking Lake Malawi (and very cheap!), the restaurant offers great food and prices, and they offer loads of activities for free. Canoes and boats to take out, snorkelling gear, dock, free cruises once a week,... More

Best place! Perfect views, nice natural eco-style rooms, amazing food (I recommend the guacamole on toast for breakfast). Always something happening there and the owners and staff are all AMAZING. Eg. We got a free upgrade to a private twin room! (just two females traveling together). Free snorkel use, canoe use, boats trips on Tuesdays... The owners made sure to... More

Mayoka village is situated right on the rocky shore of Nkhata Bay. All of their rooms have a little balcony and views right on the turquoise water of the lake. The rooms are very nice and clean. The ensuite rooms have wonderfull outdoor showers with great views on the lake. There is a very nice restaurant with local and organic... More

Malawi is very expensive to visit unless you really rough it. Mayoka Village is good value for money, we stayed in chalet 4, right on the water, and slept to the sound of lapping waves all night. There are shared ablutions (unless you have one of the big chalets), but this does not pose any problems as they function well.... More

I arrived at Mayoka Village a complete mess. I craved a shower and was extremely angry when I found out they had no running water. This wasn't their fault mind you, and I was very impressed by one staff member, Gift, who went out of her way to find me one that worked. After a long time trying, she gave... More

Well worth the praise heaped upon it by others and deservedly lonely planets people pick. Campsite and a variety of priced chalets overlook the bay. Internet free to residents and a variety of other services such as free trips, free equipment and free afternoon tea and biscuits every day. Maria and her staff are sociable and very helpful. The facilities... More

I checked in to this place for 3 days and stayed 3 weeks, it was a wonderful place - the staff were friendly and the home grown/made food was spot on. This was the best place I stayed, in the best country in Africa.

Everything here functions pretty well - with a good restaurant, decent prixces (1,700 to camp), and a host of freebies - snorkels, canoes, tea/coffee, occasional boat trips etc. The owner is on site and is very friendly/helpful. It does occasionally get a bit crowded, but not nearly as badly as some backpackers. The place next door is considerably cheaper, but... More
