I booked the stone cottage by the phone and the person promised it will be saved for us. We arrived a day earlier, so luckily I phoned to see if they have a place for the extra night. Only then we found out that they overbooked the cottage (by the internet) to someone else, and canceled our booking. They did... More

We absolutely loved our experience at Njaya Lodge. It was our first time there and we stayed in two different chalets and the experience was beautiful! Our verandah looked out on to the lake and Paul (the owner) and his gf visiting from England and all the staff were absolutely the warmest and friendliest people ever. The food was actually... More

As this was my first trip to Malawi, I wasn't sure what to expect but staying at this beautiful beachside lodge made my virgin voyage exceptional. The exquisite setting of these lovely chalets built into the hillside overlooking the lake, was breathtaking alone. However, what I wasn't prepared for was the wonderful atmosphere at Njaya. I was fortunate enough to... More

Part of our tour which we unfortunately managed 2 stay only 1 nyt in the beautiful stone chalet just on the beach. waking up to the breaking of the waves along the rocks was just amazing. The best of all was the food which was reasonable and mouthwatering i would definately recommend this place to all. Grant n Gill

I travelled with a friend and when we arrived we were given the opportunity to see the rooms and then decide which to stay in. We had three nights in one of the stone rooms on the beach- it was lovely waking up and walking outside to be right on the ocean. There was a watchman there which allowed us... More

Just returned form almost 3 weeks in Malawi and our second stay at Njaya. It met our expectations yet again. Stayed in the Villa which was beautifully furnished and must have the best view in the area. The atmosphere of the place and the fabulous staff encouraged strangers to talk and become new friends. Highly recommend this place again.

I stayed here for four nights and if I ever get to Nkhata Bay again, I will choose Njaya. I had originally planned on staying at Maoyka but they were full. As soon as I arrived, the view from the restaurant terrace convinced me that I didn't care about my first choice anymore. I got a reasonably priced very nice... More

We were suppose to be staying at Mayoka Resort but it was booked out, so as a last minute decision, we found this place. It was a little hard to find (we did arrive at night). The staff were absolutely amazing. Special mention must go to Gilbert and Mr Lubley Dubly, one of our waiters. They just made the stay... More

This is a wonderful and peaceful place at the shores of Lake Malawi. The service is wonderful. The meals are one of a kind. But the very best things are the surrounding areas. To stay in a house here and wake up just before sunrise and see the sun get born out of the Lake is really something extra.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Njaya Lodge was a magical spot. The kind of place you could wake up in one morning and realize that you were supposed to be back at work months ago. Swahili for 'the broken hearted' by Peter More (Bantam Books). Njaya Lodge is Nkhata Bay's first "Responsible travel" retreat, opening its doors for business in 1994. Since then thousands of international travelers, flash-packers and holiday-makers have arrived, stayed and then stayed for a bit longer….Visitors have included, from the music world, Andy Kershaw, Will Young and veteran crooner David Essex! Njaya is the perfect destination for a two week beach holiday, or as a refreshing stop off on your way to the islands or after a game viewing trip to the Nyika Plateau or South Luangwa in Zambia. ... more   less
