Lovely, lovely week at Footsteps. All that other reviewers say about environment and things to do was true so I won't repeat it. Highlight was the kora (traditional harp) concert -- a superb experience. Whatever you think of David (it's clear from the reviews that feelings are mixed), he has created a great place at Footsteps and has his heart... More

Lovely relaxing holiday at Footsteps in a family friendly environment. Gambians are very friendly and the food was great. Lots to see and do - beach was super as well. In a very quiet remote location but the airport pick up is free if you book via booking.com

This was my first visit to Gambia. I chose Footsteps Eco Lodge because it away from the main tourist area and in a more rural setting, and what a great choice I made. The lodge is set next to a forest, with a large garden to walk around and take photos of the local fauna and flora. Every aspect of... More

We actually stayed in accommodation at Sunbird House (http://www.sunbirdhousegambia.com/Home.html), a lovely building within the grounds of Footsteps Eco Lodge with fantastic facilities that has the same ethos as the Eco Lodge itself. Sunbird House has a large kitchen/dinning area, with fridge, hob, kettle etc and two spacious double bedrooms with en suite bathrooms. From the veranda you can watch Sunbirds,... More

Mother, 64, and son, 30, holidaying together for the first time in fifteen years. Neither of us are seasoned travellers and this was our first time in Africa. I was looking for real Africa, not the many-starred tourist resorts. I think we found it here. Be prepared to see the third-world struggles of this country, the work that is involved... More

This is our 8th visit to the Gambia and since we have discovered these little hidden away Lodges away from the main tourist areas we have never looked back. Stayed 4 nights at Footsteps, from 18th Feb 2014 then moved onto Farukunku(sep review), We loved the round houses, we stayed in Hippo, the peat toilets no problem, the water is... More

First time in Africa, and it's more than I'd expected! First meeting with Footsteps- OS, the driver. He knows exactly where to take you. No matter what you want or need. He's also very helpfull. If you want to go shopping, let him take you to Brikama. A huge Gambian market! Since he's local, he will surely help you getting... More

Footsteps Eco Lodge provides the perfect Gambian getaway. It is exquisitely set, bordered by tropical forest to the east and rich farmland made up of local small holdings growing a rich variety of produce to the west before reaching miles of unspoilt beach. If you have come to view wildlife I can think of no better location, numerous bird species... More
