I stayed at Footsteps for a week in April. I travelled to The Gambia with my Dad, we stayed in the "Rabbit" lodge - a twin room. We had a fantastic relaxing week. We went primarily to do some birdwatching, and saw well over 100 species from inside the lodge's grounds. We had intended to do a few more trips,... More

I choose Footsteps because it is far from the main tourist area and it is eco friendly. I stayed for 2 nights. The room was great and the staff were excellent. The food was good but expensive. The place is perfect for bird photography as well. I had the best chances to photograph Swallow-tailed Bee-eater, Red-bellied Flycatcher, Fanti Saw-wing and... More

This has been one of the best holidays ever. We decided on The Gambia this year as a bit of a gamble. We booked a house on the Footsteps site as we like to be independent but wanted the closeness of the Lodge to give us comfort that things would not be too wild! We had a fabulous time. The... More

We have just returned from a weeks stay at Footsteps Eco lodge and Loved it! It was a lot nicer and cleaner than I expected. The pictures on Trip Advisor and on the website don't do the lodge justice. We stayed in the Turtle mud hut which was lovely (like a little mini villa, rather than a mud hut). All... More

Lovely, lovely week at Footsteps. All that other reviewers say about environment and things to do was true so I won't repeat it. Highlight was the kora (traditional harp) concert -- a superb experience. Whatever you think of David (it's clear from the reviews that feelings are mixed), he has created a great place at Footsteps and has his heart... More

Lovely relaxing holiday at Footsteps in a family friendly environment. Gambians are very friendly and the food was great. Lots to see and do - beach was super as well. In a very quiet remote location but the airport pick up is free if you book via booking.com

This was my first visit to Gambia. I chose Footsteps Eco Lodge because it away from the main tourist area and in a more rural setting, and what a great choice I made. The lodge is set next to a forest, with a large garden to walk around and take photos of the local fauna and flora. Every aspect of... More

We actually stayed in accommodation at Sunbird House (http://www.sunbirdhousegambia.com/Home.html), a lovely building within the grounds of Footsteps Eco Lodge with fantastic facilities that has the same ethos as the Eco Lodge itself. Sunbird House has a large kitchen/dinning area, with fridge, hob, kettle etc and two spacious double bedrooms with en suite bathrooms. From the veranda you can watch Sunbirds,... More

Mother, 64, and son, 30, holidaying together for the first time in fifteen years. Neither of us are seasoned travellers and this was our first time in Africa. I was looking for real Africa, not the many-starred tourist resorts. I think we found it here. Be prepared to see the third-world struggles of this country, the work that is involved... More
