An Italianate mansion halfway between Herkimer and Little Falls, New York, turned into a charming bed and breakfast inn. Proprietor Roland is gracious, friendly, helpful, and solicitous. His collection of knickknacks and the beautifully preserved interior, including magnificent walnut panelling and woodwork make this B&B a gem. Roland organizes breakfast with everyone around a large table, appropriately expanded or shrunk... More

If travelling through NY state this B&B is right mid everywhere, and for the price a great find and a great way to break up ones trip. We found them on Purple Roofs, and the hosts were wonderful, the breakfast stunning, and the antiques within one could spend hours looking at - some are even for sale! Our room was... More

My son and I stopped here on our way to Cooperstown. Very convenient from highway 90. Roland and Steve were very helpful with restaurant suggestions and directions. The oriental decor in the Arlington room was fun. Rooms and bathrooms were very clean and comfortable. Good breakfast. A hairdryer in the room would have been nice. Good value and a nice... More

My friend and I stayed at the Portobello Inn B & B on our way to Mass. this past weekend. The Inn is historic and quaint. The Innkeepers did everything to make our short stay comfortable. They accomodated my frieind by serving a gluten free breakfast. The price was right and the beds were comfy. Thanks Gentlemen for a wonderful... More

My husband and I stayed at the Portobello Inn over Labor Day weekend. It is a quaint, historic property in Herkimer, NY. Our room was very comfortable, pleasant, clean and well lit with a private bathroom. Breakfast and free Wi-Fi are included, and the room rates are very well priced. There is also plenty of free parking on-site at the... More

How nice to find a Bed and Breakfast in Herkimer, a town with few options. Our room was elegant, with gorgeous window treatments. Roland is the most delightful innkeeper, so pleasant and so interesting. We were in the area on business, and he was kind enough to make a delicious early breakfast both days. Muffins, quiche, a sauce of fresh... More

We stayed here summer of 2012 for a family wedding in a nearby town. The owners have done a lovely job restoring a beautiful 1850s Italianate mansion. Furnishings are sparse in some of the public rooms, but the guest rooms are well-outfitted, lovely, comfortable, clean and well maintained. The breakfast is outstanding, and not just because our gracious host Roland... More

Roland, innkeeper at Portobello Inn, describes it as a work in progress, and that description is supported by the 'in preparation for painting' state of the exterior. It is clear that the place is also a labor of love, with wonderful decorative details and fascinating appointments gathered by somebody who really likes to collect and display interesting things. The house... More

This beautiful Victorian B&B in Herkimer, NY is worth checking into. The exterior is in the process of being scraped for repainting, but don't let that put you off. You will find Roland and Steve, the inn keepers, to be the most gracious and entertaining hosts. Roland cooked us wonderful breakfasts (fresh fruit, home-made muffins, eggs, french toast, zucchini quiche,... More

My husband and I stayed here for the weekend of our 22nd wedding anniversary. We were greeted by Roland at the car when we arrived. We arrived very late in the evening and he was very accommodating by meeting us so late. You never once got the impression that this man was dealing with a ton of emotion in his... More
