We stayed just a night and tried to change our bookings to stay another because we enjoyed it so much. The chalets are idealic, looking out at the sunrise. The main lodge building, built within the bolders is unique. Our guide Sam was wonderfully knowledgeable about the game, the plants, the local culture and beliefs and other history of the... More

So much has been said about the stunning location of this lodge and it's all true. I loved the tasteful and romantic decor - mosquito netting etc - and the use of stone tiling to mimic the natural stone of the surroundings - it makes for a luxurious, relaxing setting. Our room had a panoramic view of the valley, we... More

Hi Tapuwa, many thanks for the kind words, and the helpful tips as well!! We really appreciate the input from our guests, and take their comments seriously. Apologies, on the gate not being open for you, and sounds like the packed breakfast could have been better. I will raise this with Lin the manageress, and I am sure we will... More

We camped here in a tent for 3 nights. It's a very nice site with friendly and helpful staff, and a very good place from which to explore Matopos. We had a good pitch with our own braai and firepit. Care was taken to ensure that we, as an 'older' couple were shown a place away from the central area where... More

A fair camp site for tenting with decent facilities. Ok toilets and showers with hot water. Nice little bar for evening gatherings. Environments not all that great. Very little wildlife during my visit. Perhaps unlucky, though. All in all worth a visit if not too far away from your planned route.

Get up early and walk with Sam. One history walk and one for a view across the way. We enjoyed the view walk more than Cecil Rhodes! We would have found a price list and clarity on what we were being charged for helpful, though it was not overpriced, just not clear. We felt the cleaning staff should time their... More

This is a wonderful place that you shouldn't miss if you are around Bulawayo. We spent only one night at the lodge and would love to come back again to spend more time. The lodge has amazing surroundings and if you can convince yourself to get out of bed early you can enjoy beautiful sunrises. The room and food has... More

The camp lodge capped an overall rewarding experience to the Matopos. I stayed in one of the chalets and enjoyed every minute of the serene, spectacular environment. Despite not seeing much game in a park hard hit by poachers, Sam made the park tour both interesting and informative from a historical and natural perspective. The meals (B-fast, lunch (picnic) and... More

The camp itself is really well situated, on the outcrop with individual views and beautifully presented rooms. But what makes this camp outstanding was Sam's guided tour - his knowledge of and interest in local history and plants made it an engrossing two hours. Modern day Zimbabwe sits atop the confluence of overlapping historical events from the bushmen, through the... More

Thank you so much taking the time to review Big Cave. It is really motivating for the staff and guides to know that you appreciated the knowledge that was imparted on your trip to Rhodes Grave. Guiding in our opinion is a terribly important part of any safari! Well done Sam, you have really shone!! Best Regards Dave More

I will never forget my stay here. From the friendliness of Roy and Sam to the experience of Ian Harmer this place is definitely the heart of Zimbabwe. The hot showers were not bad either. I would have loved to stay longer. If you are there in the future, be sure to ask Roy why everyone loves Jack.
