This is an excellent safari camp. Small and not over crowded. The installations are discrete so as to mix with nature. The lodge itself is really comfortable and the big tents have everything you would need on such a vacation. We spent 4 nights there and were greeted by very friendly staff from the cooks to the guides to the... More

From the moment we arrived; until our departure we were treated royally. The staff were friendly, courteous, energetic and responsive. Great food. Outstanding guides. Great game viewing throughout the concession, including 50 to 100 yards in front of tents due to the watering hole. By the way, "tent" is an understatement for those never on safari. They have all the... More

I can honestly say that this was our best holiday ever! Staff were fantastic, the camp was great and the guides & game superb. The food (catering for children 12 & 14 and vegetarian) was excellent. I did have reservations about 'camping' in the bush, but would recommend this to anyone. JUST BRILLIANT!!!

The five of us spent 3 night at Little Mak, we had an absolutely amazing time. The staff were faultless, the game drives were brilliant (despite the wet weather), the food was delicious and lots of it!!! And the tents were incredibly comfy. There is plenty of game to be seen in Hwange, unfortunately we experienced a torrential downpour the... More

Like others have noted - this was not the most luxurious of camps, but nice just the same. The staff was amazing - very friendly, knowledgeable, inviting in so many ways and went out of their way to accommodate everyone's needs. Honest was our guide and he was excellent!!!!!! Bea and her staff at camp had so many interesting stories... More

We loved Little Makalolo. Beautiful tents, I think they are brand new, huge bathroom inside the tent, outdoor shower, plus indoor shower, was wonderful having screens all around, they would roll down the walls at night for privacy, but the tents are placed far apart. Thimbu, Avica, Bea and everyone was wonderful. Game drives were beautiful and we saw a... More

Dear Travelinggirly, Thank you for your wonderful review. Little Makalolo is a very special camp in a very special area. Hwange National Park has some of the highest mammal diversity for any national park in the world and is known in particular for its great herds of Cape buffalo and elephant (nearly 30 000). With over 100 species the variety... More

Little Makalolo offers not so much the luxury you can find at other camps, but the privacy (only 6 tents) and the view of the waterhole are fantastic. Guides are knowledgable (thank you Honour) and Hwange will be rewarding for those looking for a place to unwind and see animals like roans and sables which the park still supports in... More

We just returned from a fabulous two-week trip to Africa with 9 days of unforgettable safaris. We saw 38 different mammals and 111 different birds. In Zimbabwe, we went to three great camps in Mana Pools NP, Matusandona NP, and Hwange NP. Little Makalolo was our third bush camp in Africa. It is an outstanding Wilderness Safari camp in Hwange... Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Little Makalolo Camp lies in one of Hwange National Park's best wildlife viewing areas. It offers privacy for guests who enjoy small camps and a sense of remoteness. The area is ecologically diverse, ensuring great numbers of animals year-round. The camp's six spacious en-suite tents, with both indoor and outdoor showers, are nestled in the tree line, with solar power for hot water and lighting ensuring a lighter footprint. A false mopane tree in the centre of the camp shades a separate dining and living area. During siesta hours, guests can enjoy up-close and outstanding wildlife viewing at the log pile hide that overlooks the waterhole in front of camp. Activities centre on game drives in open 4x4 Land Rovers and guided walks. The area's large number of waterholes attracts game in both quantity and variety. This is especially true in winter when water sources become scarce and Wilderness Safaris takes responsibility for pumping 22 of Hwange's boreholes in the Concession to sustain its wildlife. ... more   less
