This is not even a good, basic hotel. I had to rent 2 rooms since no double beds were available & the AC did not work in one of the rooms. The bathroom in one of the rooms smelled like dried pee and the vanity was filthy. The rooms were dirty: Hair everywhere, dust, and musty smelling. The rooms were... more

Don't even think of booking a room here. Part of the hotel appears to be used as a welfare hotel and part by prostitutes. Despite the fact that our group had reserved 10 rooms, most of the rooms were unavailable when we checked in at 4pm. Each time a member of our party tried to check in, the clerk told... more

My experience at this hotel was perfectly fine. My room was immaculately clean (a first floor smoking room), everything in the room worked as it should, and I found the whole hotel to be in relatively good shape. All rooms here have the classic Howard Johnson sliding glass doors (with working double locks and security bar) to private balconies which... more

I stayed here last week with my family for 6 nights. We were looking for a hotel from which we could both have days at the beach as well as day trips to New York City. The location is great - just along the 495 and very easy to get to. We went to the Fire Island beaches (about a... more

Stayed at the Howard Johnsons in Commack for five nights. Yes as other reviewers have noted it's old and kinda run down (I would have loved to see what this place looked like in it's hey-day), but if you are looking for a decent motel with a friendly staff, quiet room, comfortable bed & a free breakfast at a budget... more

We shacked up for a few nights at this hotel. A big plus is that it is right off the LIE (exit 51 headed east I believe). And it is easy to find. We checked in, and the gentleman was very friendly. The room was nice and clean. The bed was extremely comfortable. The breakfast they served wasn't all that... more

This is a perfectly decent, no-frills hotel. I have stayed here several times while visiting family. Every time that I have stayed, I have been quite satisfied. It is true that the hallways are a bit run-down, but the rooms where I have stayed have always been clean, beds have been very comfortable, and the neighborhood is very quiet. Staff... more

I stayed here for two nights while attending a family function nearby. All I wanted was your basic clean room at an affordable price, and the hotel does achieve that... certainly, I didn't see anything gross. But the place is definitely run-down and worn. Thin towels, threadbare carpet, a lone electric outlet with an overloaded extension cord... with a jarring... more

Since this hotel is very near where my parents live, I have stayed here on many occasions over the years, including just after it was renovated it back in the early 90's (in case you're wondering, my father stays up late and blasts the TV, so I wouldn't get any sleep if I stayed there!). Unfortunately, they have allowed the... more
