The owners are very friendly and knowledgeable about the area. The place is über clean and comfortable. Just know rooms do not have TV and breakfast is adequate. Good location near river and restaurants. Clayton is turning around and a nice place to visit.

Having fled the depressing assemblage of buses, boats, trinket shops and mediocre lodging of Alexandria Bay, I have to say that I had no soaring expectations for Clayton when I rode into town. Much to my surprise, I discovered that Clayton is a nice little river town, with some interesting shops, arts and crafts, the really cool boat museum and... More

We spent last Sunday night at this very nice B&B in Clayton after attending a show at the opera house. We were both very pleased with the hospitality, clean room and great breakfast. Steve the owner was most hospitable and we will return.

We thoroughly enjoyed three nights at the McKinley House! Our room was spacious, clean and comfortable. The inn is perfectly located in walking distance to the riverfront and quaint town. The hosts Steve and Elyse could not have been more accommodating. Breakfasts were delicious and we enjoyed meeting the other guests. We will be sure to stay here when we... More

Only one block from historic downtown Clayton and the blue waters of the St Lawrence River, one only needs to use a bit of imagination to go back in time and feel what residing in this quaint river town must have been like years ago. The house is everything the reviews said it was...lovely, welcoming, tasteful and spotless. We came... More

My family gathered for my mother's 80th birthday and we stayed at the McKinley House. It was simply outstanding. Beautiful grounds and a stunning house. Extremely clean. Comfortable beds. Very quiet. The rooms had air conditioning, which was a godsend. The porch is perfect for sitting in the evening, and the living room area was a nice gathering space where... More

I originally discovered this B&B here on TA when researching accommodations for our first ever trip to Clayton, NY for a family reunion over the long July 4th weekend in 2012. We so enjoyed our visit to McKinley House that we booked again for this year and it did NOT disappoint! Steve and Elise are great hosts and it's obvious... More

I was very pleased with McKinley House and with lovely, serene Clayton, NY. The house is beautiful and is kept extremely clean. It was also very quiet. The beds were excellent. I stayed in the Basswood room. There was a really deep bathtub with two shower heads (I only used one. It was a strong shower!) Hostess Elise was very... More

The location to the US/Candian border is perfect. The city is set up for walking and viewing the water, with wonderful ice cream, fudge and coffee shops to visit. Loved the downstairs porches and rooms for conversation or TV. The quiche and fresh berries for breakfast was a treat. We stayed one night in the Basswood room. It was very... More

The owners/hosts Steve and Elise are there to welcome you, show you around the beautiful home, point out all the amenities onsite and call out local places of interest. They could not be nicer if they tried! The rooms are nicely appointed and sparkling clean. The grounds are beautiful and breakfast is very good. They also have a Keurig for... More
