We stayed there last evening which was the last part of an extended vacation. I had always wanted to see Chautauqua Institution. We called the day before from Indiana and they offered a room with dinner and breakfast. This is a HUGE old hotel built in the late 1800s. We found the experience to be relatively good given the reviews... More

The rooms are small and cell-like. Bathtubs are in short supply in most rooms, but showers are provided. The rooms are sparsely furnished and luxury is not the concept. We changed our room three times before we found one that was satisfactory. The first room had a twin beds and a dresser. The second had full or queen bed, hard... More

The dining room at the Athenaeum has been converted to an ala carte restaurant. The room has been re-decorated and is very plain - painted walls, balloon shades on the floor to ceiling windowsn and one mirror on the walls. One good aspect is the Tapas and WIne menu available from 4:30-6:30 pm. Ham/Cheeseburgers at $12. with fries and appetizers/salads... More

My husband and I made a reservation for dinner at this "hotel " based on previous reviews. When we tried to access the hotel which is a part of the Chautauqua Institution we felt that we were trying to enter Fort Knox. Had to ask four people how to get to the hotel and eventually we were issued two passes... More

Ok. I like Vegas, Cancun Mexico, Spring Break Cruises. This was different. You would really need a tour to understand the place. You would also need to go during peak times. We went a week before peak. From what I understand you need a pass during peak times. I went for my nephew's wedding. Not expecting anything like it. The... More

We just returned from a one night stay at the Athenaeum Hotel in Chautauqua which included all our meals. We have been at this hotel a number of times over the years and always had a terrific time. This time it was a disaster. The dinner which normally is very good went from bad to worse as the time passed.... More

We were here for a concert and the pkg. included a meal at this hotel. The setting was magnificent for a beautiful summer evening. The hotel has a large wrap around porch with quaint rocking chairs for guests to enjoy the beautiful lakefront setting. However there was an event that day and we were not allowed to use the area.... Stayed here for 8th or 9th time for Quilting Around Chautauqua, a yearly event held the last weekend in September. Stayed in a newly renovated room, which was lovely. It was very clean, as we have always found the rooms to be. Meals are included with price of room. We were VERY disappointed in the quality and variety of food... More

it's difficult to find a word for the athenaeum other than unique, an old, waterfront hotel inextricably tied to the chautauqua institution, but still welcoming of guests during the "off" season, which is actually, like, from september through may... the grandeur is undeniable and the view of the lake from the rocking chairs on the porch so remindful of a...
