We had a one-night package at the Athenaeum that included gate passes, parking, dinner and breakfast and the Saturday evening concert in the Amphitheatre. The dinner in the new Heirloom dining room was unexpectedly wonderful. Service was accommodating both in the dining room and at the hotel desk and concierge as well as at the Institution's front gate. The room... More

Housekeeping was lacking. We had to call the front desk as soon as we entered our room. The shade was fully extended to the point that it fell below the bottom of the window. Although there were plastic pulls, we could not succeed in getting the shade pulled up so that we could have a little light in the room.... More

We were lucky enough to be able to spend the weekend on Lake Chautauqua at the Chautauqua Institute and have accommodations in the historic and charming Athenaeum Hotel. The institute is someplace that should be investigated, and most possibly added to your bucket list if you have not been there. Many people go every summer and spend the entire summer,... More

Buffet open to those not staying at the hotel. More casual than in the past. Attentive wait persons. Nice splurge at least once during a week at the Institution, if only to have coffee and use their Wifi from a rocker, as we noticed some in the know doing.

The people who run this hotel should be prosecuted for highway robbery. The hotel is disgusting, old and full of dust. They charged me $452 for a room that I would not pay $39 for. Right now I am taking a Zyrtec because my mold and dust allergies are being set off by this disgusting cesspool.

Chautauqua Institute is a world-class educational and cultural center very poorly served by its central accommodation, the Athenaeum Hotel. From the outside, an exquisite gem on the Lake. Step thru the doors, shabby service and shabbier decor abound. Front desk was surprisingly unhelpful. We left a sweater in the restaurant and deskclerk told us to climb back to campus entrance... This was my second stay at this hotel. It is always a pleasure. The service from the young staff is wonderful. Get a room overlooking Lake Chautauqua. Be prepared to hear conversation on the porch below. They have updated the bathrooms, but rooms are still quaint. Breakfast is included in the European plan. The buffet is all right. Your best... My husband and I stayed at the Athenaeum Hotel for four evenings. We were lucky to have an updated room (premium room). The young employees were so nice and helpful. The building is very old and lacks a lot of the modern conveniences. During our stay one morning when we were returning to our room a hotel staff member told... More

We stayed at the Athenaeum for the second time. It is a classic 19th Century wood frame hotel. We stayed in a premium room that was more than adequate for our needs. It was a lovely room with a king-sized bed and comfortable mattress (and, yes, the rooms have their own full bath). The housekeeping staff was very efficient and... More

I stayed at the Athenaeum during a recent visit to Chautauqua. This is a wonderful historic inn, complete with the uneven floors, high ceilings, and wonderful service. Consistent with the overall feel of Chautauqua, this is not a "luxury" hotel, but rather a comfortable place that feels like a step back in time. I did have a reasonably updated shower... More
