Throughout our stay the weather was appalling- but the management and staff were outstanding-making our trip memorable. Jacana is an atmospheric lodge in a beautiful setting. The food is good and plentiful. BUT: If you are planning an Okavango trip in the summer, note that you’re taking a risk with the weather. Our January trip featured torrential rains, high winds... Dear Alastair A, Thank you for your review, sorry about the dreary weather but we hope that this did not detract too heavily from your over all experience. Being the rainy season we have seen plenty of it, with six or seven days of constant heavy rain at the beginning of the month, the most being 55 mm in one... More

We found the relaxed informality of the is small camp a welcome antidote to the 3 rather more deluxe camps on our trip. The food and atmposhere is homely, the decor rustic. Christmas dinner with the friendly managers and our fellow guests was memorable. Activities are varied, with trips in traditional canoes a particular highlight. The aquatic location provides opportunities... More

Dear Thank you for your awesome review, and thank you for spending Christmas in camp with us. Located on a beautiful island and surrounded by seasonally-inundated floodplains and papyrus swamps, Jacana Camp has five Meru-style tents built on raised wooden decks to facilitate its panoramic views of the Okavango Delta. Each tent has an enclosed en-suite bathroom. The main dining... More

My two children and I stayed here in August for five nights when the delta's waters were close to their highest. We specifically chose to stay at Jacana as it is a true water camp, being on an island surrounded by beautiful lagoons and waterways. As such there is less wildlife to be seen but the views and the birdlife... More

Thank you KalShearer for your great review of our camp. Both the Hide and the outdoor showers are often a big hit with a lot of our guests, The feeling of being that close to nature can be slightly daunting to some guests but as you mentioned the hide is well stocked with all the necessities and there is a... We had a 2 night stay at Jacana in September and it was fabulous !!! Meruti was our guide and he was absolutely fantastic. He really made our stay with his huge knowledge of all the wildlife and birds. Ian Michelle and KB looked after us really well in camp. Surrounded by water on 2 sides this camp was beautiful... More

Having previously stayed at Kwetsani and loved the camp, we were somewhat concerned about trying a true island camp but we were not disappointed. The camp is only accessible by boat which is a fabulous way to start the adventure. We were greeted by a very welcoming staff and camp management, plus "Jack" a big bull elephant who decided to... I was thrilled to return to Jacana Camp, operated by Wilderness Safaris, for the second time in May 2013. My first visit was in 2011; when I first saw the photos of Jacana Camp I was determined to go there. This small island camp is one of my favorites (of the 7 Wilderness Camps I have stayed at); the tranquility,... More

The camp is accessible only by boat, which provides lots of sight seeing for both birds and water wildlife. We saw a 5-meter/16-foot croc on the second day. It was an amazing creature. Morning boat rides are especially great for bird watching. The variety of birds was incredible, and most of the birds were very appeasing for easy photographs. It... More

Jacana was the most remote place we ventured on our two week trip to Africa which landed at the very end of the trip. Dan and Charmayne made you feel like you where home which is a great thing when your that far away from home. This was also the hottest time of the trip being mid-November, it easily got... More

This was our last camp in Botswana and it was just great. We were surrounded by water, even though this was the dry season, and this is one of the few camps with permanent water through the year. The boat ride to the camp was an adventure in itself and then you see it nestled away on a small island... More

Stayed at the Jacana camp for 4 nights, a 30 min ride from Maun to Jao & 30 min to Jacana.  Moruti was my lovely guide for the next few days.  Saw buffalos & an elephant (that mock charged us) within 10 min. of getting off the plane.   The boatride to Jacana through the reeds & papyrus maze, typical...
