We stayed for one night on a drive from Franschoek to Knysna. The guest house is a beautiful old thatch building with a lovely courtyard and a charming brickwork swimming pool which was well kept and welcome in the 35 degree heat of New Years Day. The rooms were nice, nothing special but clean and comfortable, although not air conditioned.... More

The rooms are nice and cozy but no bathtub , internet and no tv in thier rooms- these may be good or bad depending on your needs. The breakfast is splendid. The landlord was helpful but not quite right when he told us where to eat the night we arrived. We would have gone to the restaurant that offered ostrich... More

Very warm welcome from Pierre and Marina. Only a few minutes walk from the quirky cafes/restaurants/galleries of Calitzdorp which are well worth a visit. Caltizdorp is a deceptively pleasant town. Doesn't look much if you speed through but if you can take the time to stop and look you'll be well rewarded. Highly Recommended

Port Wine Guest House had been recommended by friends so we stayed there for two nights during a recent visit to the Cape. A very good recommendation! The guest house is in the small Karoo town of Calitzdorp where there are some great, lesser known South African vineyards, specialising in fortified wines but also some very good red table varieties.... A beautiful historic guesthouse with a nice shadowy garden and a good pool area. Though the rooms are relatively small, the lay out and facilities are ok (when it is very hot, the rooms could be not airy enough though). Also the lounge area is good with good chairs and Wifi. Opposite the guesthouse there is Boplaas winery with good... More

What a fabulous place to stay! We knew nothing about the area but particularly wanted to visit the Port vineyards, so only spent two nights in this lovely B&B. Pierre is a most excellent host, nothing is too much trouble, and breakfast was delicious. Local scenery is spectacular and we were sorry we didnt have more time to explore further.... More

We were spotted as we arrived and greeted warmly in the car park by Pierre. He showed us into his beautiful old thatched home, with wonderful high ceilings immaculately maintained, through a friendly lounge area and to our room - with four poster bed and huge ensuite - with roll top bath and views out over the BoPlass Vineyard -... If your preference is for something with character that has been exquisitely restored then Portwine is perfect for you. It was rather hot as there was only a fan in the room and no air con. . The breakfast was excellent and the pool and gardens very attractive.

After numerous good reviews my husband and I decided on staying at Port Wine Guesthouse which was the right choice. It is clean with "olde world" charm run so efficiently by Pierre. We had a ground floor room with a lovely big ensuite bathroom. It was very hot at night and we would have liked an aircon - but at... More

Having arrived last minute into town on my motorbike I was looking for decent accommodation within walking distance of the vineyards and church and Portwine most definitely fitted the bill. What won me over when riding around town was not only the guesthouse style but the friendly welcome from Pierre. The room had lots of character and was set in... More
