We started our 4 week African Safari at Tswalu. I am thankful that our booking agent suggested this wonderful lodge and the Kalahari Desert to explore. This being our first trip to Africa, I decided not to hurry, to take time at each lodge/camp to get to know the area, the staff, our guides and have a sense of the... More

We have been going on safari for 15 years and this is by the far the most expensive lodge we have stayed at. So, accordingly we expected to be wowed . The only difference with this lodge from the others we have been is that you can drink unlimited alcohol. Yes, the accommodation is beautiful but no better than any... More

This was the second visit for my wife and I and having enjoyed it so much earlier in 2014 we took my Sister-in-law along. Anxious to see the newly released pack of wild dog we headed far south on the first morning to find them (that makes it sound too easy) on a fresh kill which was perfect as they... More

From the moment you land in the Kalahari Desert at the Oppenheimer Family owned airstrip, there is magic in the air. Spending time at this reserve is a unique safari experience in which tracking the animals and learning more about indigenous species is a speciality of the guides. Staying at Tarkuni, a private villa at Tswalu is the ultimate indulgence.... More

Tswalu represents the best that (South) African hospitality can offer, and I consider myself lucky to have visited this place. The remoteness and beauty of the natural environment, and the extraordinary lodge make for an unforgettable experience. I stayed for a total of 4 nights, and would recommend that one spend at least 3 nights at this lodge to enjoy... More

It was our second time at this lodge. We went back 4 years after our first stay because of being fascinated by the landscape as well the quality of the safari. The main attraction to us are the antelopes which only really sees at other lodges and here one watches them having breakfast/lunch. I mean sable and roan antelopes. In... More

5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 24, 2014 via mobile

We spent 4 nights at Tswalu in November, the experience was amazing from the moment we arrived. It's a different game viewing experience, given the location and terrain, so one should not expect to see the usual big 5, there are no elephants. The reserve is vast compared to many other reserves in Southern Africa and there is only one... More

We returned one year after our last visit and the standard of excellence has been maintained. We had dodgy weather, but our guide Rodger Bowren and tracker Ben were outstanding. Tswalu gets everything right. Last year I suggested that a spotting scope would be a good idea. This year, the manager Joe delivered a scope to our room.

I agree with many of the comments from previous reviews. This is perhaps not a first safari location. You are not going to tick off the Big 5 in a day, but I think Tswalu has a lot more to offer than this. This clearly was a very overused area some 50 years ago and the owners and management have...
