We visited Memela in October with our children and another family. We fell in love with this special place, it is very different, but has an integrity and beauty which is a privilege to experience. Yes it is rustic, but the warmth and hospitality of Janie, Willis and their delightful daughter Lily are sheer luxury. The home cooked meals were... More

We spent an awesome 5 nights at Memela, with Jannie and Willis as our hosts. Every day, we explored the surrounding beaches which are pretty much untouched, each different in their own ways, and never disappointing. Snorkelling was really good at Kosi Mouth, and Lalaneck, and thanks to Willis, who was always around to give us helpful advice which we... More

Amazing stay!! Beautiful lodge, very well equipped and in the middle of beautiful nature. Janie and Willis are perfect hosts, they are full of ideas on what to do around there and they are very kind and generous. And lastly, the food, probably the best 'braai' we ever ate and also very nice breakfast and packed lunch!! Just go and... More

Exactly what we where looking for, relaxing, quiet, peaceful, and plenty of activities nearby. The accommodation is rustic, but comfortable. Food is great, beyond expectations. You can see that Willis has been in the industry for a while, and been involved with some upmarket lodges, he has brought some of these luxury touches to his own lodge. Its the small... More

There is a peacefulness and calmness that envelopes Memela Bush Lodge. It is truly a hidden gem. To our host with the most (Willis & his beautiful family) we cannot thank you enough for your unparalleled hospitality, generosity and warmth. The delicious home-cooked meals, the privilege of watching the sunset near the hippo pools, the trips to paradise-like beaches. I... More

This is such a piece of heaven! Me my wife and our friends stayed for sadly only one week, but boy was it worth it! The surrounding scenery is spectacular, from the bush vibe/atmosphere of the lodge, chalets and tents to the hippo pools. The food was to good to be true, from Springbuck stew to the best pizzas and... More

Willis and his family took really good care of us. The food is excellent and they served us the best filet-steak ever! You can make very beautiful day-trips in the surroundings, we went whale watching, took a trip on the lakes, went to the beach... You feel like your in paradise. This is a unique experience, Willis and his family... More

Memela bush camp is an amazing place where the owners go the extra mile to make your stay perfect. It is not a posh place, but the beuatiful rondavel and hut rooms are spotlessly clean, the outdoor bathroom makes you feel in paradise and the food they serve is lovely. Our son has a gluten allergy and they took very... More

Our family stayed at Memela for 2 nights as part of a Kosi Bay hiking trip organized through Active Escapes. We really loved this place, run by Willis and his wife Janie. Memela provides basic accommodations, but it is incredibly attractive and atmospheric . Willis, who built the bungalows himself, put lots of thought into their design—I'd call them primitive... More

Willis and Janie (yanni) were great hosts and although the lodging is simple (outdoor toilet and shower, battery lights), the food was great and the guiding professional. We were able to see the Palm Nut Vulture, a particular wish, and also found baby loggerhead turtles at night hatching and heading for the ocean. Willis had only said he would try... More
