Traveling on Rt 54 at the south end of Vaughn, doesn't look like much from the outside but the room was large and clean. The young couple running it seems to be trying to update the old rooms. I came in super late pulling a trailer with my household items. I had been traveling over 1000 miles and was exhausted. I would have kept going towards Las Cruces if it hadn't been for a windstorm. Vaughn is about one step away from being a ghost town. There's a depressing vibe with many deserted buildings, closed businesses & sad looking motels & cafes. The Sands is very basic, but very inexpensive. You'll be hard-pressed to find such a good room for only $39 + tax (single). The staff were friendly and responsive.
