I looked at Trip Advisor and Motel Safari is rated #2 in Tucumcari. We stayed and I can not say anything bad about the place. It was OK for a 1 or 2 star hotel but I wouldn't rate it #2. The bed was comfortable and TV was good. The rest of the place was old and not the best... More

What a great place. If you ever plan to motor west using the highway that's the best. A great place to get your kicks is the Motel Safari on Route 66. This is a wonderful example of Route 66 at it's finest.

We stayed at Motel Safari on our trip east primarily because of the good reviews on Trip Advisor. Thankfully, the good reviews were 'spot on'. This Motel brings one back to another era...in a good way. The place is 'cool', there is no better word to describe it. Our room brought back memories of a quieter time: the furniture, the... More

Loved this motel! Great, friendly, informative owner. Rooms are clean and very comfortable, and smelt lovely too. Wished we had booked to stay longer. Location is fantastic - right on historic Route 66.

If you're looking to get away from the "cookie-cutter" rooms that most chain motels offer, book a room at the Motel Safari in Tucumcari, New Mexico. This historic Route 66 motel is wonderful. The rooms are neat, clean and bright, and while they have modern amenities, you can still see the history. I got to briefly visit with Gail when... More

My husband and I spent one night here as we were passing through Tucumcari. We wanted to experience the Route 66 Tucumcari tonight nostalgia by staying in a classic motel. I chose this motel based on its reviews and its price. Check in was very fast. Gail personally escorted us to our room and explained everything. Our King bed room... More

Four days into our road trip, we made our way to across the border to Tucumcari, NM. Pronounced two-come-cary, this one very popular and bustling town on Route 66 is now sleepy but surviving. There is hiking and many natural wonders to see in the greater vicinity, but Tucumcari itself has charm in its murals painted throughout the city. It's... More

They advertise as having the "best beds on route 66," and they aren't joking. After a long day of driving the Mother Road, you'll find it difficult to climb out of the covers once you sink into one of their dreamy pillow-top mattresses. As a renovated, historic motel, everything is sparkling new and top of the line and extremely clean... More

Like so many other motels in Tucumcari, a town that was hit hard when the interstate replaced Route 66, the Safari is very retro, like the old motor courts of the 50s and 60s. The room was quite small and the bathroom even smaller but both were immaculate. The spare furniture, apparently custom done for the original motel, was perfect.... More

If you are ever in Tucumcari, NM, I would recommend this motel. Very retro. Beds are very, very comfortable, which is a must after traveling all day. It is an original Route 66 motel, so the bathrooms are tiny and they don't have refrigerators or microwaves in the room, but the corporate hotel with those things was $120/night and this... More
