Done in the Doo-wop or Googie style of the 1950s, it has been fully restored and is a gem. The price is right, too. It's on the old Route 66 strip and so is an easy walk to other businesses on the street, some renovated, some still vacant. There has been a lot of work done to get the wonderful... More

EVERY time I am in Tucumcari, I stay at the Motel Safari. The rooms are retro style and the beds are simply the best beds on Route 66! It is a very clean property and right on the heart of Route 66. It is a nice change of pace from the 'chain' hotels and motels most usually stay at. They... More

My husband and I drive to OK every year to visit his family and generally Tucumcari is our last overnight stay. We've stayed at Motel Safari twice and have been VERY pleased with the stay and would always stay there again. Tucumcari fascinates me as a glimpse into the wonderful past of the American Road Trip (my favorite way to... More

The Safari was brought back to life several years ago but, while I've driven and walked by the place a few times, this was my first stay. Modern amenities with enough 1960s flavor to satisfy nostalgia hunters on cruising Route 66.

Tumcumcari is a fascinating place, ravaged by the decimation of Route 66 but struggling valiantly to come back around. The Safari is a great example of a vintage motel being restored with modern comforts yet retaining its original charm. Service was very sweet and the room and bed were extraordinarily comfortable. Hopefully efforts like this will put this hard luck... More

If you are looking to stay at a reasonably priced, well maintained motel run by wonderful people while on route 66. Then you should definitely stay at Motel Safari. You get the feel of traveling back in time but with the comforts of today. I highly recommend this motel.

We stayed at the Motel Safari in mid-October, as a way point in a trip between home and Santa Fe. The facility is a restored 1950's-era motel, with evidence that a lot of time and effort had been placed into revitalizing the mid-century modern architectural details, and anyone who likes the space-age era Googie or Doo Wop styles will dig... Staying here was really fun. We planned to stop here for the night while traveling on I-40. They have managed to maintain a vintage feel while updating the furnishings. Room was spotless. The desk clerk was very friendly. It turned what would have otherwise been a boring overnight stay into a memorable experience.

Motel safari is awesome! The rooms were perfect the hotel was exactly what we expected from a Route 66 point if view and we were not disappointed! The lady was very nice when we arrived early for check in, we came at 11.am and I don't think they check in until 3 but she let us check in no problem!... More

I made the mistake of making a reservation early in the day( Leaving Las Vegas) expecting to arrive around 7:30 pm , due to unforeseen circumstances and too many gas stops, my GPS put me there at 9:50, 10 minutes before closing of the front desk. Needless to say I was exceeding the posted speed limit to make sure I... More
