When planning my 3 week birthday trip to South Africa and Mauritius there was only one place I had decided I wanted to spend my actual birthday to make it feel really special, and that was Eagles Crag at Shamwari. And I could not have chosen a better place. Our 2 night stay surpassed all my expectations! The lodges are... More

Stayed for two nights which was nothing like long enough. Stayed at LongLee manor very luxurious and friendly place. Food very good, facilities likewise. The highlight was the game drives and we were so lucky with our ranger Phillip who was knowledgeable, funny and totally dedicated. We saw the big 5 and more besides. A must for a return visit.

What an experience we had. It was made perfect by Bethuel-he is an inspiration-he was so informative and very passionate about the animals. We saw all of the big 5 and managed to see the leopard twice thanks to him. We've never experienced anything like it before and may never again. The accommodation at Eagles Crag was luxurious -you wouldn't... More

A combination of magnificence, beauty, excitement and education. Our two night stay was full of great eating, company, game drives and photography. With no hunting allowed on this reserve, the animals do not fear the Land Rovers, yet are in no way 'humanised'. In two days we witnessed two 'kills' by lionesses (a warthog and a water buck), saw 4... More

The Shamwari game reserve, tucked deep in the South African bush, undoubtedly has the most beautiful and awe-inspiring scenery and landscape I have seen in a very long time. It is malaria-free all year round, and is a 5-hour car ride from Cape Town. I stayed at Bayethe Lodge, one of the six 5-star lodges in the reserve, that is... More

This was our first time but certainly won't be our last! The reserve itself is exceptional for many reasons, one of which being the diversity of its terrain and landscapes, from plains to mountain and forests, making each drive very different. We stayed at Eagles Crag lodge, the best choice we think. First off, the game drives (two a day... More

We stayed at Long Lee Manor, from start to finish the standards were excellent, the rooms had everything and were clean and comfortable, what a shame we did not have time to enjoy them more, the safaris were superb the guides/trackers were very experienced and knowledgeable, we saw some fantastic wildlife. The food was also excellent and the staff very... More

We stayed at the Riverdene Lodge recently at Shamwari . This is a managed game reserve in which, under the expert eye of JJ, we saw a vast number of birds and animals in only three days. This included visits to both Born Free and Re-Hab centres. Accommodation and dining were fabulous as were the staff who could not have... More

we stayed at riverdene lodge with our 2 daughters (9 & 5) for 2 nights and had a fantastic time. Game drives were at 6am and 4pm and our ranger Mtombekho was absolutely great with the girls and us as well - very knowledgeable and happy to talk about anything. We saw the big 5 including and pair of black... More

Shamwari is small compared to Kruger, but the game lodge is beautiful and the staff is excellent. We saw a lot of the big 5 while we out on our drives. Rooms are large and well kept. Food is good, but limited in choices. Our game guide was Kudo. He was very nice and extremely knowledgeable. If you can not... More
