We stayed at the Bayethe Lodge as our final stop along the Garden Route as part of our honeymoon. We had such an amazing time at Shamwari and would recommend it to everybody. The lodge itself was luxurious but also it felt like you were in the bush with your own private tented lodge and decking. Our game ranger was... more

After reviewing many game reserves on trip advisor and having limited time to spend at a game park we chose shamwari to spend 2 nights, we are so glad we did, we booked the Logann Lee lodge for budget sake and were told that we were upgraded to Eagles Crag about 20 k up into the mountains, on arrival we... more

My husband and I recently experienced the absolute pinacle of South African hospitality and wildlife. We were guests at the Shamwari Game Reserve. We initially selected Shamwari because of their numerous awards for conservation and their world renowned animal rehabilitation program. Quite frankly, we wanted to avoid the “Theme Park” experience of 10 jeeps on top of one lion. We... more

My husband and I stayed at the Eagles Crag Lodge for 4 nights over Christmas 2009, and it was an absolutely fabulous experience. From the second we arrived we were looked after so well by Jean and her team, all the staff were marvellous and extremely friendly. Lodges were superb, every time we were out we would come back to... more

We had three nights at Eagle's Crag. Two nights would have left me wanting more but three enough. Accommodation was very good. Food was not spectacular but not bad. Basically, you are there for the wildlife and we saw some amazing sights. The company we had on the drives was excellent but the real value was our guide, Vuyo. more

Wow wow wow. Let me start out by saying that having grown up in South Africa I went on my fare share of safaris - and nothing came close to what we saw at Shamwari. This was, however, my American wife's first safari and it has completely ruined her for any safari experience in the future. Nothing, NOTHING, will ever... more

A brief review. Please see the previous report from BrendaB. We were one of the couples she refers to who shared two wonderful days together in Riverdene. We can but endorse everything Brenda says. We will be back next year for another helping...... more

We stayed at Riverdene for 2 nights at the end of September. This was our second visit as we stayed there in September 2008. A repeat visit was needed as we had such a wonderful time on our first visit. We booked on the Mantis Madness deal, which gave us a free hotel stay in Cape Town (Waterfront) for booking... more

We had planned this trip for 2 years to celebrate my partners 50th Birthday. We wanted something special that we would remember for the rest of our lives..and boy did we get that. Our ranger Antoinette was fantastic; she was extremely knowledgeable, made sure we saw everything (including the leopard!) and kept us interested and entertained throughout. We stayed at... more

The first thing to note is that the South Africans call these "Private Game Reserves", game farms, which is what they are: Former farms, whose owners realised they could make more money from wildlife than from cattle, sheep or citrus farming. Thus electric fences abound. If you want to see herds of hundreds of wildebeest roaming the Serengeti, then you... more

Thank you for your comments regarding your stay at Bayethe Tented camp. I am gratified that you would recommend Shamwari to a friend after your experience. Thank you too for your great TripAdvisor ratings. I do apologize though that you did not feel you received value on your visit. Your maintenance concerns have been corrected & we apologize that your...
