This was my second visit in three years, this time with friends for four nights. I wasn't disappointed. Still some of the best wildlife viewing around. A lovely setting right on the Sand River with animals crossing frequently and some resident nyala busily munching on grass in the commons area. Stayed in a suite this time -- large open space... We stayed at Mala Mala Main Camp in August 2013 as part of a National Geographic Expedition to Southern Africa. The lodge is absolutely wonderful, rooms are located through the property (just in front of the Sand River with the possibility of spotting animals while relaxing) in elegant cottages with huge bedroom, relaxing area and two bathrooms: the decor and... let it be. This is not a modern, stylish lodge with 5 star gourmet food. You can get that in any country, all over the world. This place is special ! This is the real Africa, like in the novel Out of Africa. This lodge was the first in the Sabi Sand to change from game hunting to game viewing... More

If you want to see the big five there are lots of fine camps to choose from in Southern and East Africa. If you want to see incredible animal interactions MalaMala is the best. We have seen leopards mating, a leopard and cub dining on the head of a duiker, a leopard trying to steal a buffalo kill from a... More

This was our first safari experience and what a wonderful stay we had. The accommodations were top notch with his & hers bathrooms to the animals right outside our beautiful sliding door windows. The staff was extremely helpful with all amenities and the food was way too plentiful. The safari expeditions couldn't have been more exciting with Jonathan, our guide.... More

My wife and I selected MalaMala for our two night stay based on the recommendation of two South African friends who had both stayed there and raved about the camp. I’m glad we took their advice, because we had a spectacularly unforgettable time at MalaMala Main Camp from the moment we touched down. After 25 hours and two days of... More

Our visit to MalaMala was part of a 12-day safari that began in Capetown and included other stops in Zimbabwe to visit Victoria Falls and another safari camp. Our stay at MalaMala was the highlight of this totally amazing trip! Beautiful grounds, amazing food and helpful and friendly staff came together to make this one of the most enjoyable stays... More

This would be tough to beat! This review relates to the main camp, not Ratrays or Sable. Ratrays is up market, and Sable (alongside Main camp) is focused on smaller groups or family takeovers as there is an age restriction on children at that camp. But frankly, I am more than happy we were at the main camp. Mr Ratray... More

Wow. Jackpot. Mala Mala was incredible. I’m a convert. Nothing prepared me for the animal variety and interaction I experienced in Mala Mala. I’m a detail oriented reviewer, so here goes. GAME DRIVES - We started at 6 a.m., with a quick coffee on the veranda, then straight to the land rover. Our ranger had hot water bottles, blankets, a... More

I totally wish that I would live here. This place in incredible. We saw every animal. The leopards, lions, giraffes, and the hippos are all amazing. And their food is amazing. It is all homemade food and their breakfast has very nice pancakes. Our tour guide named Grant was the best. He was very kind and nice. Such a gentleman.... More
