I agree with a previous guest, it resembles a 3 star motel not a 5 star game reserve. It is not how it looks online and is in dire need of money being spent on it. Not bad for someone who can't stretch to a 'proper ' lodge. Good points are location and rangers.

Don't think twice about staying here! You will be amazed!! We can't wait to go back!! We spent five days at Malamala Main Camp and were very impressed with the entire operation. We were in #23 with no river view, but plenty of wildlife passed by our windows including a leopard chasing a baboon! We also had a monitor Lizard... More

I was on my own at Mala Mala, having luckily secured the one single room that they have (thus NOT incurring the 100% single supplement for the stay). I'm not really sure what a double room would have been like, as mine was enormous, and actually had two separate bathrooms. The rooms were amazing, and despite warnings to the contrary,... More

We were at Main Camp March 3-5, part of a small group tour in South Africa and surrounding countries. It was our first trip to Africa. The time spent at Mala Mala was the highlight of the entire trip and exceeded all our expectations. Our cottage #23 was spacious and comfortable with two large bathrooms and every amenity provided. Our... More

This isd a wonderful place. The attention to detail and the service given by all the staff was excellent. Special mention must be made of the game drives when so many animals were seen on all days. The rangers must all have a sixth sense to track and find them even in the dark. Thanks especially to Grant, Paul and... More

We spent 3 days of a Titan Tour of South Africa at the beautiful Mala Mala. What a start to a fantastic holiday! We enjoyed every minute at the Game Reserve and we were even awake before our morning call at 5.15am, raring to get out with our fantastic Ranger, Roan. We saw the big five many times plus so... This was about our 20th Safari trip - I'm married to a South Africna so we do go very often. Malamala is a very historic camp- in Sabi Sand Reserve- good game viewing But- I was so disappointed- it is the African equivalent of a Motel 6. From the moment you pull up you can see - it is the... More

Hi there, We were obviously disappointed to read your review. You did not mention “Rattray’s on MalaMala” (Rattray’s) where you stayed the night prior to your arrival at MalaMala Main Camp and where you had hoped to extend your stay. This was not possible as the camp was fully booked. The report back from Rattray’s management and from your ranger... More

I could not have envisioned such a wonderful experience. As a first time traveler to Africa, yet a frequent traveler to Asia and Europe, this was a memorable and throughly enjoyable experience start to finish. The rooms were spacious and warmly inviting. The staff attentive and a font of knowledge. The food was wonderful and the game drives were always... More

This must rate as the very best game reserve experience we have ever had! We saw the "big 5" on two consecutive days, our game ranger Greg had a wealth of knowledge and incredible enthusiasm, the accommodation was perfect, the meals delicious and the staff amazing. A highlight was the bush breakfast which included a visiting rhino. We cannot wait... More
