Everything you need to fish is found at Abe's. They rent fly fishing and spin fishing gear, weighters, etc. There were two men, long-time staff who were very friendly and full of advice on where to fish and what to use. Plenty of snacks to purchase.

Just got back from a week at Abe's Motel and Fly Shop. This is simply a great place to stay for several reasons. First, Abe's has been there since 1958; and caters to the fishing traffic. Navajo Dam, NM is a very small community (300-400?) folks and exists primarily for the fishing; fly fishing on the San Juan, and a... More

This hotel caters to fly fisherpersons who want to be close to the San Juan River Quality Water but don't want to pay more than a hundred bucks a night. It fits this bill perfectly. If you're staying at Abe's for any other reason, you might be disappointed as is a very basic hotel. We had a room with an... More

Who would've thought the El Pascador Cafe would have the best margarita I've had in a long time. (And I'm a picky bartender) Fresh lime juice....awesome. The chips and queso were delicious, (I'm from Texas....I know good queso) and so was my Greek salad. Nice work, folks...we felt very welcome and will definitely be back.

As others have humorously stated, the place is dated, yes they actually have carpet in the bathrooms and the showers are small. They are also totally functional and well suited for a great fishing trip, but probably not a family vacation or a honeymoon. I went for the first time with my husband who has been staying there for 20... More

Staying at Abe's is fun for the serious fisherman who is there to fish not bask in luxury. It's Spartan, bare bones, and fun. It's often full especially on week ends. The rooms have always been very clean each of the four times we have stayed there. There are rooms with small but efficient kitchenettes. The beds are comfortable (I... More

If you're in Navajo Dam to fish then Abe's is the place to be. Rooms are clean but very very basic. but the upside is the price, very low. With two per room it's about $42 each per night. Great fly shop and restaurant on site also.

I've been staying at Abe's at least once/year for over 20 years. There are better places to stay in Navajo Dam, but Abe's has become part of my San Juan experience. The motel's flaws are well known: outdated furniture and appliances; comically poor TV reception; tiny showers (the door pops open when you try to wash your feet). Yet, yet,... More

I recently stayed at Abe's for the first time; although I had been a customer of their store and fly shop on several occasions. I found that the motel fit the bill in a good manner. It's a motel that caters to fishermen, so it's fairly basic. My room had a nice kitchen and it was super clean. The staff... More

We were scheduled to stay for three night's. We checked out after only one. It was a truly miserable experience! The refrigerator and air conditioner didn't work. The room smelled terrible and there were bugs in the shower. My wife refused to be in the shower alone and in fact, took a shower with her shoes on. At 1:30am, the... More
