The ninth night of our Route 66 tour found us at this historic attraction of a hotel! I imagine some people would like the old world feel but after what we'd become accustomed to on this trip it was a bit of a nightmare. It had a 1920's feel with stuffed animal heads everywhere. The rooms were all named after... More

This hotel is all about nostalgia. The lobby is like a huge log cabin with a soaring fireplace and furniture that cries out 'WEST" such as antler chairs, a player piano and leather couches. The lobby is open to the second level which features photos of movie stars who had stayed there. This is really about the allure of Route... More

The El Rancho is right out of the past. All of the rooms are named after celebrities. We stayed in the Lucille Ball room. The loby has lots of movie star photos and was constructed like a log cabin. The restaurant was ok, but not very inspired. Previous reviewers had stated that the desk clerk was not friendly, however, we... More

This hotel is all about nostalgia and the movie stars from the Golden Era of Hollywood. There are photos of movie stars from the past all over the lobby and the rooms are named after movie stars. Very nice and courteous staff and very clean, although small rooms and even smaller restrooms. The gift shop is full of beautiful Native... More

We did not stay at this hotel but rather stopped to see this historic attraction. Beautiful lobby, loads of old movie star photos on the wall and a staircase constructed with huge logs. Would have loved to eat at their restaurant but just weren't hungry but it looked interesting. In the hotel gift shop I purchased some Ortega Zuni silver... More

A Harvey hotel with a lot of history. It is worth one night just to experience the ambiance of this great historic hotel. You sacrifice some of the comforts you are used to but again, worth the experience. Most rooms are on the third floor so if you do not do stairs well, it could be a problem for you.... More

We enjoyed our one night stay here. It was a wonderful stop to visit the new mexico area. It had a good restaurant. Santa Fe around Christmas is a must. We will definitely go back. And we wish to visit the Taos area next time.

I was really looking forward to staying in a genuine Route 66 Hotel, where the stars stayed back in the day. My 7 year old son and I arrived at about 9 PM, and headed to the lobby bathroom. It smelled like it was last cleaned in the 1930s. Oh well, on to the front desk. I gave my name... More

We have stayed at the El Rancho several times in recent years and always have an enjoyable stay. Rooms are clean and the staff is very friendly. We love the older, historic hotels and this one is a gem to be sure. Wonderful interiors and a good restaurant - especially for breakfast! Free WiFi - hooray!

I wouldn't go so far as to say the El Rancho is "terrible", but it is somewhere between "poor" and "average" as far as lodgings an dining are concerned. It seems to be relying on its past glories with the old movie stars who have stayed at El Rancho long ago . Not much seems to have been done since... More
