The 1 star is ONLY for the foyer, which is truly magnificent. From there it falls apart. I am positive there ware some lovely rooms, but unfortunately ours was not one of them. 2 king rooms had been booked and despite phoning on the morning of our arrival to ensure close proximity, we were floors apart. Their excuse was "people... More

Our family of four stayed in the Mae West room. The hotel is well preserved and highlights their celebrity lineage. And that is what you come here for. You can walk around the second floor deck to see all of the Old Hollywood photos which feature so many actors and actresses from the day. We enjoyed pointing out the celebrities... More

This was exactly what I expected -- it looked like the rooms hadn't been touched since the 40's, but that's the whole charm of the place. The lobby was gorgeous, and the restaurant, while casual, offered a great breakfast selection. The actual rooms aren't super nice, and feature original bathrooms with tiny showers (no tubs) and minimal space. But, El... More

The El Rancho is a Gallup institution. For many years it was the favored residence of the movie stars who came to New Mexico to shoot their films. There is a John Wayne room and a Ronald Reagan room, named after former residents. We stayed in the Lucille Ball room. And, yes, Lucy did come to New Mexico to film... More

If you want to stay someplace that's got character and nostalgia, this is the place. The main hall is full of charm and signed photos of past movie stars. The room in the hotel was roomy and the bed seemed new. The bathroom was clean, but probably hasn't changed much since the day it was built and may not be... More

The ninth night of our Route 66 tour found us at this historic attraction of a hotel! I imagine some people would like the old world feel but after what we'd become accustomed to on this trip it was a bit of a nightmare. It had a 1920's feel with stuffed animal heads everywhere. The rooms were all named after... More

This hotel is all about nostalgia. The lobby is like a huge log cabin with a soaring fireplace and furniture that cries out 'WEST" such as antler chairs, a player piano and leather couches. The lobby is open to the second level which features photos of movie stars who had stayed there. This is really about the allure of Route... More

The El Rancho is right out of the past. All of the rooms are named after celebrities. We stayed in the Lucille Ball room. The loby has lots of movie star photos and was constructed like a log cabin. The restaurant was ok, but not very inspired. Previous reviewers had stated that the desk clerk was not friendly, however, we... More

This hotel is all about nostalgia and the movie stars from the Golden Era of Hollywood. There are photos of movie stars from the past all over the lobby and the rooms are named after movie stars. Very nice and courteous staff and very clean, although small rooms and even smaller restrooms. The gift shop is full of beautiful Native... More

We did not stay at this hotel but rather stopped to see this historic attraction. Beautiful lobby, loads of old movie star photos on the wall and a staircase constructed with huge logs. Would have loved to eat at their restaurant but just weren't hungry but it looked interesting. In the hotel gift shop I purchased some Ortega Zuni silver... More
