We've stayed here once before and this time took other friends. The hotel is from the late 1930's. Rooms were very adequate. They are named after movie stars. We have stayed in the John Wayne room and the Alan Ladd room. Doorways are qite narrow. No problem for us but could be for others. The lobby was really entertaining with... More

This is not your standard hotel! I am actually very happy that places like this still exist. Famous movie stars stayed here, period photographs are displayed in the gorgeous lobby. Staying in the motel section of the El Rancho means that you shave off half of the cost of the room rate (No internet access, though). The rooms in the... More

I was looking forward to this visit and scored reservation at the last minute. That should have told me something. I was not housed in the hotel but in a vintage two story after thought that wasn't very comfortable or quiet. The trains ran constantly, which is part of Route 66 charm but the units are housed on a busy... More

This hotel was probably something back in the day, but I would not recommend it now. The "convenience of tomorrow" in their slogan was definitely lacking. The internet did not work at all in the morning. And there was absolutely no electric outlet in the bathroom for drying hair and applying make-up! You are paying for celebrity visits LONG ago... OK, so we "bit" on all the "hotel of the stars" billboards we saw between Needles Ca. & here. I don't think anything has changed at this place since 1950 except the in room TV. We stayed in the "Jack Benny" room off the main lobby. Very small with, probably, the same furnishings it had when he stayed there except... More

my boyfriend and i stopprd here on our way to Utah to visit this historic beauty. It is where all the old movie stars stayed when they made their westerns from John Wayne to Lucille Ball. The beautful lobby is filled with all their photos from head to toe. A wonderful and yummy restaurant and nice Navajo gift shop called... More

We found ourselves in Gallup without any reservations and were unsure where to stay. Decided to give the motel a go as the hotel is steeped in Hollywood history and the price was good. Our room was lovely and clean. Bed was really comfortable and we had a great nights sleep despite being so close to the main road. A... More

What a cool place to find ourselves as we passed through Gallup looking for a room. This old, historic hotel is as fabulous as they come, a hotel that lodged the biggest of the Hollywood stars during the '20s and '30s. My husband and I slept in the "Robert Taylor room"! Mind you, this hotel is "of the era," and... More

You don't stay at the El Rancho if you're looking for a 4* hotel. You stay for the experience. From the moment you pull into the car park it's like taking a step back in time. The lobby is seriously impressive and you can just imagine the Hollywood legends of the 40s and 50s walking down the central staircase. In... More

My husband booked online as this was something different to the normal hotel motel along the way. This hotel has an interesting history with all rooms named for the stars that stayed there over the past 80 + years. The hotel was warm clean and very charming. A wonderful example of craftsmanship with wooden stairs and other features including framed,... More
