My wife and I enjoy staying in historic hotels whenever we can and this is one of the best in the southwest. Redone in 2005, the rooms are great, beds comfy and bathrooms are clean and modern, but in classic historic style.

Please don't compare this to the modern motels along the highway. The experience here is historic, coupled with the positive experience of the two families who brought this place back from the dead. We were stranded here in the now-famous blizzard of Dec. 2011. The staff could not have been more accommodating. The restaurant is open for all three meals... More

We made reservations while on the road. Receptionist was outstanding--helpful, friendly and efficient. We were at Hotel Eklund a couple years ago and were happy to see it had reopened. Friendly staff, comfortable accommodations. Great Price. Yes, the bed was interesting and the floor rolled a little--it's a "historic" hotel and part of the fun--but it was all clean and... More

It was great to return the "new" Eklund. We had a balcony room and it was fun to sit with a glass of wine and watch the city traffic. The restaurant was mediocre (but had a lot of locals on a weekday evening). The staff was super-friendly and very helpful.

Hotel Eklund is an old historic hotel in a very small town near the Texas, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Colorado border. Our room was immaculately clean. There is so many interesting things that went on at the turn of the century in the area, and the man who made our reservations gave us a wonderful tour of the hotel and... More

Love the old hotel building and interior. Built 1892. Worth stopping in at least to view outside and inside of old hotel. Hotel Accomodation: So, So. No seating in room except desk chair. Bed not very comfortable. Very noisy inside and out. Hotel Staff: Excellent!! Price: What we got was a special and was very good Restaurant: Breakfast is good.... More

My new husband and I were passing through town on our way to Colorado. We decided to pop in and check this lovely place out. Irene was very helpful and we stayed the night in the King Suite with the balcony. It was simply lovely. Restaurant was wonderful as was breakfast the next morning.

After the Eklund was closed, we kept checking back to see if it was open again and finally were rewarded when it reopened earlier this year. We had our usual suite opening onto the balcony overlooking downtown Clayton. We enjoyed it and the restaurant. New owners and staff very helpful. We will continue making the Eklund a stop on our... The staff is knowledgeable, warm and welcoming. Terrific food (they currently serve lunch and dinner) and the New Mexico wines are a nice touch. The downstairs and dining room are awesomely over-the-top western Victorian (you can also eat in the saloon), but the rooms are true to the heyday of this historic railroad hotel, comfortable and uncluttered. The bathrooms are... More
