Great place to stay and experience a little taste of the old west on our way to the mountains. Had dinner in the saloon the set with other guest and locals in the outside garden for an old singalong with guitars, banjo and mandolin.

GREAT place to stay, eat and drink this place will take you back in time with its original bar to the gunshots still in the ceiling from the rowdy cowboy days. Its a must see and stay and enjoy the food, gift shop and great service from the front desk to the bartender to the waiting staff all is top... More

The hotel was nice and clean. The staff very helpful. Loved the laid back atmosphere. The breakfast is included with a stay. I was expecting fresh warm food. The food was cold and they had two microwaves to heat it. The fresh fruit and quiche was wonderful!!

My husband and I were traveling with our Golden Retriever and spent the night here. We were originally hoping for the Best Weatern because the reviews were so good. But, we were so happy we stayed here. Much more quaint, quiet, historic, great restaurant and salon. We ate dinner outside on the patio with our dog happily greeting everyone who... More

We enjoyed our stay in this historical hotel, however, there was a major dissatisfaction that I want to state first. I booked our rooms on Expedia over a month in advance. I booked 2 deluxe queens for $90 ea. The next day, I found out that we would have another child traveling with us. I read on the Hotel Eklund... More

Passing through Clayton on our way to Wyoming. We usually stay at the Best Western Kokopelli Lodge, but they were booked. This is a historic hotel with a lot of character in the lobby and saloon. The rooms are very clean, but very basic. There are no coffee makers, fridges, or microwaves, etc. there is free wifi, though. The room... More

My family stayed here on a trip from Texas to Colorado. The Eklund hotel was built in 1892 and restored in 2004. All of the century-old charm remains - including bullet holes in the saloon ceiling from its Wild West days. The staff is amazing - friendly, helpful, and filled with enchanting stories of the hotel's early years. The restaurant/saloon... More

I've stayed here three times over the years. Clayton may be a small, dusty town but the Eklund turns it into an enjoyable experience and a welcome stop on a long drive across the prairie. The Eklund has a great history behind it, as well as a fine restaurant. It may cost a bit more than the nicer motels in... More

I stayed at the Hotel Eklund because it seemed like the historically appropriate thing to do. The front desk clerk, Jerry, was incredibly friendly and helpful. And the A/C in the room worked great! So that's the positive side. The room dated back to the early 1900s and was, well, historic. And simple. A bed, a desk and a small... More

I travel roughly 120 nights a year and look for historic/interesting hotels to stay in. This was not one of them. Unfortunately, I found out too late. I could not get service at the restaurant, the room looks like it was decorated by the hardware store across the street, and the price is way of line for the value. I... More
