I've stayed at the Eklund many times over the past five years and have always been satisfied. Nothing fancy but a good, solid, charming, historic hotel. I hadn't been back for nine months or so and the change is shocking. Had difficulty confirming a reservation over the phone, the check-in clerk was a young punk strung out on something, the... more

In so many ways the trip to Clayton was excellent. Having travelled the US extensively, this was the first time we got to know the locals and got invited from the Eklund Bar to the Veteran's bar (there are only 2 bars in town). All in all we had a great night and it was down to the friendly locals... more

I stopped in for dinner one evening when in town, went to the dinning room which is full of old world charm and certainly a place to see when there. The service was very slow as they were busy that night with a couple of parties. The food arrived hot and was very tastie but the steak was done far... more

This was the second time I stayed at the Eklund on my way to Aspen, CO. It's a wonderful historic hotel - the tallest building in town. The room prices are so reasonable! I spent $83 for a queen-sized bed & room as I was traveling alone. The room has beautiful antique furniture and a very comfortable bed. It also... more

I graduated from high school in Clayton during the mid-1970's and the Eklund always facinated me, even though it was boarded up. So, when they finally opened the hotel I had to return with my wife and daughter. The rooms are first rate, with great bathrooms, spacious beds and even cable TV (definately not a part of the old west).... more

The Eklund is an experience that you don't want to miss. It's the perfect blend of history and comfort. I've stayed at some of the nicest hotels in the US , and the Eklund ranks right up there with the best of the best! Their brochure states that the Eklund was build in 1892. It still contains the elaborately carved... more

Talk about stepping back in time, the Eklund offers a wonderful taste of the old west with all the modern conveniences. Walking into the lobby of this small well-kept hotel was a treat in itself, you really feel like you're stepping back in time. The rooms are bright and neatly kept. The Eklund was our oasis for 2 days on... more

We used to eat at the Eklund all the time when we went through Clayton, NM. It used to be a cozy little joint full of atmosphere with pretty darn good food. Well, it seems that they took a notion to remodel the restaurant and now it isn't half as good as it used to be. The food quality was... more
