I first discovered this hotel in a story i was reading and did some investigation. I found they have a website to reserve rooms, but they don't reply. I love new mexico and took a drive out there to see this place for myself. The wife wanted to go until i informed her that people report it is haunted. She... more
I too first saw the Saint James when we took a troop to Philmont Scout Ranch. When we passed through Cimarron on the way to Taos a few years later, I had to try it. I will rate it "A" for an interesting experience and historical content. Comfort is another story. Given the choice between a more modern room in... more
Real history here and quiet quality ambience. Ever dream what it would be like staying in one of those museums you have toured where rooms are cordened off for viewing only? This is the place. No television or phone noise irritating you from other rooms. Guest actually talk with one another instead of by passing and ignoring each other. Yes... more
I first saw the St. James in 2001, while attending the Philmont Scout Ranch. In Oct. 2006, my wife and I stopped there on t here on our way to Colorado. The place was filthy. If we had taken a good look in our room when we first arrived, we would not have stayed. The place looked as if it... more
Stopped to have dinner and possibly stay at this hotel on the way to Taos. We had high hopes given the age and the history of this hotel. While much of the lobby and dining area has been kept true to its past, the carpet is pretty nasty and the upholstered chairs look and feel as though they have been... more
This is an old hotel with a lot of personality. It has been a working hotel since the first bullet holes were fired into the original tin ceiling, and there hasn't been a major remodel since before women could vote. If you're looking for a nice and elegant "themed" hotel, then stay away. This is the real thing. City slickers... more
If you're interested in taking a step back in time, I don't believe you can get any more realistic than a stay at the St. James Hotel, especially on one of their Murder Mystery Weekends (there are dates and details on the hotel's website -- they do these about 4-5 times a year, I think). The event allows you to... more
Rooms in the historic section of the St. James Hotel have changed little since the days when the Santa Fe Trail was an important highway. If former guests Clay Allison or Jesse James were able to visit one of the restored rooms today (and who knows -- they may have), they'd likely notice few changes beyond the electric lights and... more
This "hotel" is a ripoff, I've stayed in better hostels. Some people might call this charming, I call it a old, run down, hotel. more
