Great Southwest
Oct 30, 2009 | Trip type: Family

The rooms stank, the bedding covers haven't been cleaned in a long time, the lighting was mostly limited to overhead lightbulbs on the fan, the breakfast was cut up pieces of a muffin, there wasn't a window in the room -- only the door, which must be a safety code violation... Worse, beyond all of that, was verbal personal assault... more

I can never understand why people kvetch about the smallest things, like the previous reviewers. We found Chimayo a wonderful place to stop en route to Taos (the inn is just off the scenic high-road), and for sheer cultural draw ended up spending about three hours near the Sanctuary, checking out shrines, retablo shops, and the spice merchants. The inn... more

I wish they would have put more effort into making this place really shine. It has potential, but if falls short of what it should be. On the plus side, this is an adobe hacienda in the countryside with ambiance, quiet, a few antiques, and a sense of history. Our room ("Seis") was large. Across the street is their justifiably... more

First, I question why anyone would choose to stay in Chimayo. The church is a draw and worth a visit and the Rancho de Chimayo restaurant (which is under the same ownership as the hacienda) lives up to its reputation, but apart from a fine weaving shop, there is nothing else there that warrants an overnight stay. Our room at... more

My wife and I stayed at the Hacienda in October 2006, and were very pleased. Each room is individually decorated, each with Kiva fireplace in which logs are set up for you, ready to light. We used the fireplace every night. The rooms surround a small courtyard with a pretty fountain and some small tables and chairs. A very pretty... more

We were very happy with Room Uno. It has a king size bed and a small sitting area with a kiva fireplace. French doors opened to a small patio, overlooking the entry to the Rancho de Chimayo restaurant. Note: Rooms do not have a television, which was shocking to my husband, but refreshing to me! Uno is on the north... more

If I were to give it a grade, it would be A-/B+. This place was very relaxing and homey. For instance, one of the resident cats strolled in for a visit. Not a "four star" but that's not what we were expecting-- rustic antiques and plain linens just fit perfectly. It was great to be able to park the car... more

This is a very attractive, nicely furnished and interesting little B&B, but we had no idea from its Web site that it lacked air conditioning. Admittedly, during most of the year, this probably isn't much of an issue in Chimayo, but during our stay in mid-July, it was darn hot. It probably felt somewhat worse in our room (room "Dos")... more

My wife and I stayed here on a Sunday night. The rooms were very nice, and we felt comfortable after a long day of hiking in Bandaleer National forest. We walked across the street that evening and enjoyed the restaurant which I would consider four star. Very very nice restaurant. The only thing I was displeased about, was the breakfast... more

Anyone visiting New Mexico should by all means make it a point to visit the town of Chimayo. If you need a place to stay the Hacienda de Chimayo has the most beautiful Southwestern-style rooms, very serene and peaceful. It is an old family home with alot of history behind it. Directly across is the world- famous Rancho de Chimayo... more
