We stayed in this hotel last year and my husband and I were given a good room. Our daughter had real problems with the maintenance in her room and these were never resolved. The food was standard Bhutanese food for tourists, but there buckwheat pancakes and homemade jams were great. This visit we were given a room with no view,... More

Spent two nights at River Lodge in February, which is not the best time to visit Bhutan if you like toasty weather. It was cold. The charming owner installed an electric blanket, which helped. I stayed in the room pictured above, which was very nice and had a sweeping view of the valley. I am a foodie, so I found... More

Mr. Pema Dawa, our very charming and welcoming proprietor made our stay very pleasant. The property overlooks the Bumthang Valley, not at its most charming part, but that doesn't matter much. It is Bhutan, after all. The beauty is all around. The facilities and amenities are pretty basic and if this was a review of an American or European hotel... More

This hotel is just before the entrance gate of the town. Very warm staff makes your stay very comfortable. The owner himself is a good host who has also travelled widely. Is a good story teller continuously chewing betel leaves (doma).

We didn't stay here but we ate in their lovely restaurant and loved the food (Note that we are vegetarian). After almost seven days of the typical fare, we were pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food at the River Lodge restaurant. Everything is certified organic and the restaurant is very pretty. You don't get a lot of dish... More

We stayed three nights at this lodge. The first two nighters a room with a wood stove and were horrible. The room itself was ok but freezing cold. We asked to be transferred to a room with an electric heater and it made all of the difference. The food here was some of the best we had in the 3... More

We were a group of 9 people from Darjeeling, we stayed here for 3 nights from 27th June to 29th June 2014, We came across this lodge by chance but the search was worth it, we were welcomed with warm greetings,as we were very tired after a long journey so wanted to retire to our beds early, the dinner was... River Lodge, owned by Pema Dawa, is a perfect place to stay in Jakar. The rooks are very well equipped, both with wood stoves and electric radiators, and there is plenty of hot water all day round in case you want to shower. Food is fabulous, and the chef gladly caters to your taste. While there is International food, I... More

we had lunch at this restaurant and the taste of the food is pathetic. Service is damn slow. We had ordered for chapati and mix veg which took almost 1 hour to be delivered in our table. The food was pathetic. We speciafically had asked the chief "please prepare who you are good at preparing" still the food was horrible.... More

We stayed here for two nights in March 2014. The staff was very responsive to requests (heater, extra blankets, additional wood) and was attentive in dining room. With the heater and wood stove (which you can add to with the provided wood) the room was warm enough at night. The room was clean. We had some issues with the shower... More
