the Gongkhar Guesthouse is very special. the rooms are delightfully comfortable, the grounds are planted with scented flowers, the views are spectacular, the prayer flags whip in the breeze, the people are friendly, the prices are fine, the walk into Jakar is easy and pleasant, and the walk back is even nicer because of that feeling of 'coming home' to... So, it's not an Aman resort. In the middle of Bumthang, a million miles from anywhere, this is a great little Lodge. The rooms are more than acceptable and have a Bhutan feel, but with uncluttered Scandinavian overtones Good beds and enough hot water in a large, clean bathroom. The food, however, is surprisingly good. Generally you come to expect... More

I was told not to expect much from "guest houses" in Bhutan. I was told they would be rustic and we would be lucky to get hot water. This guest house, which was located away from the main reception/dining area, was so much nicer than what I was expecting. It was on the 2nd floor and had a lovely view... More

Quiet place located about 20 mn walk from the town. Easy to take a taxi in town to get back to the hotel in the evening if you don't want to walk, or if you're a bit afraid of the barking dogs, as we were... We were asked 50 Nu for it, which is less than 1 USD : don't... More

Stayed here for the night on the way to Mongar. Clean rooms with clean sheets and a heated shower. Had note resting Bhutanese meals here which is rather nice. The rooms are all made of wood. They have an interesting heating system.

The room is made in wood, very spacious, big window, nice wood burning heater. I had a very good impression when i entered the room. The negatif point is the cheap shower equipement. I took shower at 10:30 pm and the shower handle is falling appart when i turn it, hot water keep shooting out as u can see in... More

3 nights created three more longing. Rooms are beautiful and spacious, king size bed, a seating area. Beautiful room encourages a desire to stay more days. The restaurant makes an effort to adapt to Western tastes. Cleanliness and excellent service. We loved every minute there.

Only a few days before going to Bhutan we decided to change and stay at Gongkhar, and I am very happy I took that decision. We stayed in the newer, modern rooms, covered in pine clad and with an amazing view to the Dzong. The toilets are clean and modern, although not charming, but the shower is really good. The... More

This might not have qualified as '5 star' accom in the traditional sense, but for me it ticked all the boxes and was my favourite of all our hotels. It is a family run outfit and the level of genuine care was evident from the outset. Nothing was too much trouble. We were there for 3 nights, lunches and breakfasts... More

This was the first place in Bhutan without the elevated door threshold and the nicest, most comfortable room we had. We were located in the newer buildings in the back of the property, The bathroom with all the basics was large and had both shower and bathtub. The bed was comfortable. Every room had a stove which came with the... More
