We have stayed at this hotel twice. it is certainly no frills but we love the location, beach front and great no frills bungalows. we normally paid only about $50 p/night. it does have a pool but no other amenities. there are heaps of new big flash hotels popping up on phu quoc but the owner of tropicana is lovely... more

We didn't book ahead and arrived at the airport a bit clueless. After meeting a chap from the Tropicanan he assured us that he had excellent rooms at 20 usd offered us a lift to the resort and if we didn't like it he wouldn't charge us for the free lift!! We stayed! The room we stayed in was in... more

We stayed here one awful and horrible night that we would like to forget. The bungalow smelled of mould and was dirty, although the view over the ocean was nice. The bathroom was a nightmare, the toilet didn’t flush and the shower only dripped. The staff was unhelpful and unfriendly. When we arrived other people staying there urged us to... more

We just came out ot the Tropicana resort as we couldn't take it anymore! We booked there for 4 nights after staying somewhere else, as we liked the idea of AC bungalows and swimming pool. When we got there at 9am there was no electricity which is normal in this island so no Ac and nothing worked. So this went... more

I would not really recommend this place as a mid-range hotel. We paid $35 (it was low season), but it is priced over $50 in the high season, taking it firmly into the mid-range level for Vietnam. The bottom line is, however, that the staff and facilities are not mid-range. The bungalows are old, the staff was not very friendly... more

This is frontier tourism at it's best. Sadly in another few years I think places like the Tropicana will be taken over by big resorts. We stayed here last week for 5 days in 2 beachfront bungalows (wouldn't bother with any others) Classic bamboo, thatched roof, tiled floors, large front veranda to watch the world go by. Bathroom with shower... more

We chose this place based on the write up in the Lonely Planet. Firstly I would recommend that you don't stay here - but if that doesn't convince you read on: We were picked up by 2 really friendly guys from the airport - that's where the good points end. At reception: this guy was not friendly and reluctantly gave... more

I arrived at the same time as some other Westerners and despite the friendly staff, there were many problems. The airconditioner did not work that night. I complained the next morning after waking dripping with sweat and covered with mosquitos. They assured me it would be fixed, but the following night, it was the same. Also they tried to rip... more

My wife and I first visited during New Year's Eve in 2002. It was more basic than it is now (cold showers only), no A/C but it was romantic - so romantic that I proposed to her, each of us lying in a hammock gotten from the staff and set up the porch of our bungalow. The bungalows then were... more
