We booked the court yard room, expecting it to lead into a court yard or somewhere close to a court yard...it didn't. Besides that, the room was old, gave an air of not being clean, was dark, lacked decor, the air conditioner was old, the tv didn't work and there was no remote for the tv to begin with. The... More

I'm not sure what's going with the negative reviews. Perhaps there have been updates since then. But I think this hotel is very nice. They saved us at midnight from a horribly spider-infested guesthouse. The rooms are clean, spacious and delightfully spider-free. The desk staff were both very nice, helpful and accommodating. The hotel is a bit outdated in terms... More

At about $52 this was good value for the money. Having read other revues we checked the rooms out first and discovered the rooms in the front were far better than the others. Our room was clean with new carpet, couch, good bed, bath and shower in the restroom. Flat screen tv, coffee facilities. Great for our One night stay.... More

the hotel is a real "plattelandse" hotel, very friendly and helpful staff through out, from reception to the bar to the gardener. the rooms are also typical , big rooms with 2 double beds, easily sleeping a family of 4, sliding doors with safety gate facing the garden, shower in the bath, hotel can be upgraded but then it will of... Our room was big, and comfy, but the carpet was dirty, and the bedding and curtains was out dated, and a little washed out. It was clean though. Towels were clean, and the shower in the bath is not great.

Nothing to write home about. This is as basic as it gets in the beautiful and picturesque town of Swellendam. Property and rooms are dull and boring. The staff are unfriendly. Not wheelchair friendly as no elevator in 3 storey building!! Beautiful mountain views from our room on 2nd floor.

This hotel barely earns an "Average" rating based only on location and price in this popular tourist destination. Guest area maintenance is very average, guest room worse with carpet torn, badly soiled in places, and restaurant food, including breakfast, of so-so-to-just-adequate quality.

The hotel was established in 1915 and is still in business, what an achievement. The current owners have been there since 1975 and still loving their hotel, guests and friends. Real value for money, and the wealth of information shared to make your visit in Swellendam memorable. I loved the tranquility and peacefulness the hotel oozes and the pretty gardens,... More

This is one tired old place! Everything about the hotel was poor and they only avoided a terrible as a staff member gave us a good tip for a restaurant. Where do I start.... The property is old, worn and not well laid out. It is not well cared for and things like the pool are very ropey - you... More

We slept here one night on our way east through the garden route. The place is not bad, clean and cheap. Yet the rooms are very cold and dump and not all are heated. The restaurant of the hotel, Jorje's, makes good food.
