I have stayed at La Fontaine several times but this is my first review. Last week I spent one night, in an upstairs room of the main house. The room was huge and very comfortable. It was also warm which was welcome as it was a chilly night. The bedding was fabulous - thick duvet with crisp cotton sheets, pure... More

Thank you so much for finding the time out of your very busy schedule to write this review. There is always room for improvement and we could add croissants to the breakfast menu. Your client was very excited about his stay at La Fontaine. Even with my limited understanding of French I could grasp what he was saying! I hope... More

We stayed for 2 nights in April bringing the winter weather with us. We stayed in Room 2(I think) upstairs in the Main House. We had a very large bedroom with a dressing area off and a large bathroom with walk-in shower and standalone bath. I am truly becoming very spoiled. Plenty of towels and toiletries provided. Free wi-fi was... More

Thank you so much for your review. Yes, indeed you were in Room 2 upstairs in the main house with beautiful mountain views. All the facilities at La Fontaine are for the sole use of the guests. We are fortunate to have an upstairs TV room which opens out onto a balcony where you can enjoy a glass of wine... More

We have visited two years ago and this time asked if we could have the same room and we did. Management are amazing - everyone seems to be treated like an individual even although they are constantly busy and lots of changes of guests as people pass through Franschhoek.

Thank you so much for your review. All guests that stay with us at La Fontaine are special to us. Those who return year after year make up about 25% of our bookings. We look forward to seeing you soon. Warm greetings, Kathie More

We stayed for one night only in the family room. Thoroughly enjoyed the location and the facilities in the room. There was a lovely verandah and easy access to the swimming pool and breakfast area. The manager and staff were friendly and helpful. The family room could be improved by having the TV in the lounge rather than the main... More

Hi there Thank you so much for your review. The family room is tucked away in the corner of the garden in the swimming pool area with a private patio which is very suitable for families with children. I have taken note of your suggestion that the TV would be better placed in the open plan room instead of the... More

Lovely traditional guest house within walking distance of the Main Street and all the restaurants in this very pretty town. We were made to feel very welcome and our room on the 1st floor of this old villa (room5) was large and bright, with an enormous bathroom and direct access onto a shared large veranda and small lounge. The breakfasts... More

Thanks for your review. We are very fortunate to have 2 traditional buildings at La Fontaine where space has not been compromised. The 5 rooms in the main house are spacious and light and all individually decorated. The weather has been pleasant enough to serve breakfasts outside under the pergola and recently we have had 2 sets of guests who... More

We stayed only one night. Found the location to be excellent, a block off the main street. The owner helped us make a dinner reservation and was otherwise very accommodating. We were there for what was alleged to be the hottest day in a decade, so were quite thankful for that the air conditioning worked in the room and that... More

Many thanks for your review. March in Franschhoek can be hot but we have had a relatively cooler month but it has been necessary to use the air cons which we have in each room. During the high season it is essential to make pre-bookings at the nearby restaurants but if you have not done so we will gladly phone... More

Very well located to town, quaint house and garden rooms. We had room opposite swimming pool in garden, very comfortable. Owner and staff very friendly and helpful, especially for suggesting and sorting restaurants as we hadn't appreciated how busy places get. Whilst a little bit dated it added to charm and certainly a good place to stay

Franschhoek is the place to be for breath-taking scenery, warm hospitality, world-class cuisine, finest wines and peaceful surroundings and added to that a lovely garden suite at La Fontaine! South Africa, and especially the Cape, is known for its friendliness - smile and the whole world smiles with you. We hope to welcome you back to La Fontaine on your... More

La Fontaine is a lovely old house within minutes of the centre of Franschhoek. We had a lovely room with patio beside the pool. The owners were very helpful, with many recommendations for restaurants.

Thank you for your review. There is nothing better than local knowledge which we can offer as we have lived in Franschhoek for +- 33 years and been involved in the local community. La Fontaine was originally a family home built in 1926 and then turned into a girls' boarding house. It was called Linquenda, which I understand means one... More

We stayed one night in a family room, of which was very clean and large but we found the décor to be very dark which in turned made the room feel dreary. The location was spot on, just a couple of mins walk to the main road. The owner was very polite and helpful and gave us a guided tour... More

Thank you for your review. We apologise if you felt you were "told off" but we have now put name boards on the tables as we find that guests choose any table and sit down at a table of 4 when there are only 2. We pride ourselves in offering the freshest breakfast with a large bowl of fresh fruit... More

we stayed at this wonderful place for 2 nights this February. We had a large comfortable room which was great apart from the creaky floor which made us giggle at night as my husband gets up for a pee and tries to be quiet which was impossible. The service was warm, helpful and friendly and nothing was to much trouble... More

Oh! for creaking floors - I wonder how the school girls sneaked out without being caught when La Fontaine was a girls' boarding house !! There are no rooms on the ground floor in the main house so you would not have disturbed anyone! The birds that come to the juice bottle are so beautiful and you can see where... More
