I have just returned from another trip to Akademie Street Hotel. It was as wonderful in the summer as in the winter. The staff are brilliant, everyone, from Declan, Hazel and Stacey to the magnificent Margie are top notch. Nothing is too much trouble, they genuinely care about your stay. It truly deserves to be the best small hotel in... More

It was our first time in Franschhoeck and we had a fabulous time at Akademie. Wonderful breakfast in the courtyard with every goodies you can imagine, walking distance to the main road with all the pretty shops and restaurants, always a full fridge with sodas, waters, wine snacks etc. for free, laudry service and lots of other little extras make... If there is a better place to stay (anywhere) then I don't know it. This was the first place we stayed in when we first visited South Africa 11 years ago, and we have been back every year since, staying longer and longer each year. Thank you Declan, Hazel, Stacey and all the ladies and gents for making us so... More

Had the good fortune to stay in this beautiful hotel last night and it is utterly wonderful. Really well looked after, amazing room with stunning bathroom (we could lay in the candle lit bath and watch the stars in the clear night sky) before enjoying a night in the huge sumptuous bed. Breakfast on the terrace overlooking the plunge pool... More

Was it our third, our fourth or our fifth visit to Akademie? I can't remember, all I know is that we found the same welcome (Hazel, Margies, Stacey and Declan, thank you), the same attention to detail, lovely nibbles, 'real' coffee machine, welcome half bottle of sparkling wine on arrival. This time, as our beloved Twyfeling room was already booked... More

This was the second place we visited on our South African honeymoon and we have now concluded that Akademie Street was our favourite of the full two weeks away. Declan, Hazel, Stacey and all their staff were friendly, accommodating and made us feel extremely welcome in this beautifully unique boutique guest house. The cottage we stayed in, Vreugde, was stunningly... More

For the 2nd time we stayed at Akademie Street GH. This time we had the Twyfeling A+B. It was as wonderful as our first stay in Uitsig. There could be no better place to stay in Franschhoek. It has amazing rooms, a beautyful yard, lovely people and it is close to every top retaurant. Every time again.

My wife and I stayed at Akademie St on our trip to the winelands last December, our fourth visit and definitely the best yet. Having previously stayed in Uitsig and Vreugde, for this trip we decided to book Oortuiging as we were keen to have our own small garden and plunge pool, plus the convenience of it's kitchenette and lounge.... It has been about 7 years since our last stay and nothing has changed, at all. And that is a good thing. Akademie Street is nearly perfect and absolutely wonderful. On this stay we stayed in Vruegde, the garden suite. It is the smallest of the rooms available but still quite spacious. It is basically a large hotel room with... More

We stayed there for 2 weeks and explored the southwestern Cape in a rented car. Franschhoek is the perfect base: situated in the beautiful winecountry with Stellenbosch and Paarl nearby, one hour to Capetown and the peninsula and other beaches and when you drive across the pass you are in a wide open country under a huge (hopefully) blue sky...
