To celebrate our first anniversary, my wife and I were looking for a 5 star guest house or hotel situated in the heart of town and despite knowing Franschoek quite well, discovered Akademie street via Tripadvisor. The place was perfect in every sense. Superb service run by a superb team. Our room, the garden and the hotel itself was cosy... More

You might wonder why there are nearly a thousand reviews extolling the virtues of Akademie Street. They obvious answer is that it is very , very, good, and in spite of being, by South African standards , expensive, it does offer very good value for money I suppose for me it was the genuine warmth of welcome that came top... This is the most beautiful house I've had the pleasure of staying in. Beautifully decorated with art everywhere. Elegant and peaceful with views to stir the soul. The staff are incredibly welcoming and chatty. Our room was stunning with everything we could possibly need. There is even a little kitchenette with a microwave and iron and ironing board. All the... Stayed here for a few days in March 2015. Lovely property very convenient for Franschhoek and all the nearby restaurants - 5 minutes walk in many cases. Declan and his staff are very welcoming and friendly. Felt very comfortable here and well looked after. Highly recommended.

Lovely little hotel with wonderful character in its old cape dutch housing. I also loved that it was very private and we only saw the other guests at breakfast. Staff all friendly and helpful. Will definitely return.

We were attending a wedding in Franschhoek and Akademie Street Hotel was one of the recommended hotels. The hotel is in a great location only two blocks back from the high street and despite this the street is extremely quiet. We were very glad to have chosen this small hotel for our 4 night stay. We booked a suite which... More

What can I say! Perfect, Perfect, Perfect! Declan, Hazel and team were awesome. We were hosts for the party of 8, celebrating a 50th birthday. Akademie helped make the occasion very special. Thank you. Anyone heading to franschhoek, and wanting understated luxury, should definitely check out this boutique hotel. Thank you for making our party feel very welcomed and special.

We stayed in the Vreugde room - very private and cozy. Accommodation is of an extremely high standard - large cozy bed; airy & sunlight room; free mini-bar; small kitchenette; clean and spacious bathroom; leather couch on veranda and own private gate/car-park just off the street. The setting and grounds are beautiful. Each room is different, from cottage, to modern loft, to original century room. Service is unbelievable; breakfast could not be improved; and each room is equipped with bottomless and complementary everything. The staff are always available and flexible in response to any needs, laundry service being a huge plus. I'm expecting the same sort... More
