My wife and I stayed for just one night at the end of a long journey in South Africa, in the dead of winter (for South Africa). I am sorry we were not able to spend more time at the idyllic hotel. We were welcomed by Hazel and other members of their staff. We stayed at the smallest of their... More

We stayed at AKADEMIE for the third visit in March this year. We have travelled extensively in South Africa for the last ten years and this establishment without doubt wins top prize. Luxury accommodation and breakfasts are of the highest standards and we experienced peace and privacy which was better than any 5 star hotel. Our rooms (GELATENHEID) were luxurious... More

My wife and I have just returned from a trip to South Africa, and we stayed a few nights at the Akademie. We have fine memories of authentic art, a superbly stocked library, peace, calm and, above all, highly civilised, sparkling and vivid conversations with the wonderful people who run and staff this delightful boutique hotel, which is imbued with... We spent three nights in the Akademie, a converted family home in a quiet but central street in Franschhoek that has retained a domestic air. The original family still run the small hotel and their beautiful art, much painted by a family member, is everywhere. They also have a fabulous library with a wonderful selection of South African literature and... More

The Akademie Street Boutique Hotel is a gem! It is in a great location - walking distance to town with lots of restaurants and shops. It is also just a short drive to many terrific wineries. We stayed in the Vreugde guest house which was wonderfully cozy and very comfortable! No small detail was overlooked. Breakfast was served in the... More

Amazing hosts and staff at Akademie Street. Rooms generous and provided all the little extras without any fuss. Great location in town for walking to restaurants, sights and plenty of recommendations for things to do on a rainy day (there were a few). Breakfast was a feast as you might expect in the culinary capital of South Africa, but very... More

We had three lovely days in Franschoek, staying at Akademie Street Boutique Hotel and Guesthouse. The room was wonderful and attention to detail phenomenal. Everyone there was friendly, knowledgeable and very welcoming. The breakfasts were beautifully prepared, and very tasty. I have already booked another stay!

A perfect place to stay away from cape town. The guest house and the town are absolutely charming. They stocked the fridge with cheese and sausages at my request for midnight snacks. Our six nights were faultless including the daily delivery of laundry. Our veranda overlooked an artful garden. Anna a beautiful lab came to greet us every morning. Would... More

Everything was amazingly perfect - nothing was missing! Beautiful and tasteful decor, the service second to none. Fantastically fresh and healthy home made breakfast - even Anna the dog made us feel very at home! Hazel was just gorgeous - so friendly and helpful. She even booked a gorgeous little place for dinner for us which was fantastic. Our room... More

My husband and I have stayed at small hotels around the world, and Akademie Street is one of the best. Your hosts can not do enough for you, the rooms are immaculate, breakfasts never ending and location perfect. The hotel dog, Anna, is lovely as well. Our room was huge, with a small kitchen where all the items were free... More
