This was our second visit to Fransvliet and it was every bit as good as the first. We stayed there on a cold, rainy weekend, and it was perfect from the warm welcome of a cosy fire in our room to the delicious breakfasts in the morning. We will definitely be back!

Brilliant place to stay on the R45 just a hop from Franschhoek Village. The breakfast was truly the highlight as it stood out even over a restaurant who boasted about their special breakfast. Clean and comfortable!

Fransvliet is a wonderful guest house on the outskirts of Franschoek, just a couple or so kilometers from the main strip where all of the restaurants and shops are. It consists of four connected suites overlooking a beautiful garden of indigenous plants, grape vines and the dramatic mountains bounding Franschoek Valley in the not-so-far distance. Suites are large, comfortable, well-decorated... More

We really enjoyed our stay. The room was spacious especially the bathroom. A nice fireplace to keep the cold at bay. The breakfast was excellent, we were treated with a special each morning with great coffee, cheeses and desserts. The surrounds are beautiful and the guest house is located very close to Franschhoek and the surrounding wine farms. Highly recommended.

Excellent visit this is a wonderful property and owner/ managed by Shirley. Extra added comforts, under floor heating in the bathroom, electric blanket for those chilly winter nights, and a great wood burning fireplace...extreme comfort. Breakfast to die for, and all staff friendly and helpful. One complaint, we did not stay long enough. Shirley's recommendations on the wine farms, surrounding... More

The accommodation, service and attention to detail are all of the highest order. The rooms offer all the amenities that one could wish for and the breakfasts are positively mouth watering. The rural setting is beautiful and relaxing

We've stayed in many a B&B in winelands around the world, and Fransvliet's vibe and service was among the most inviting. Highlights were: 1) Excellent recommendations on wineries to visit and restaurants. Shirley arranged all the reservations for us while we enjoyed breakfast. 2) About that breakfast, they were all to die for. It was a privilege to have Shirley... More

Thank you for reviewing Fransvliet -and we are delighted that you had a terrific time. Your point is taken re the tiny microwave, however I know that that leads to people heating meals etc. Food stains and smells are the result. For this reason we have so far avoided including a microwave. We look forward to welcoming you again. More

We had a splendid time over the recent long weekend, rooms are impeccable, breakfast a feast and the staff very helpful and friendly! Only missed a small microwave to heat the cold milk for the coffee.

My husband and I feel so lucky we had the opportunity to start our Honeymoon at Fransvliet. We travelled from Canada and (as I am sure you know) it is a long trip! When we finally arrived we instantly felt like we were home! I hugged Shirley! There is a really special feeling at Fransvliet. We felt as though absolutely... More

Franschhoek in late January was astoundingly beautiful. We were blessed with absolutely perfect weather. With Shirley's help we made some advance dining plans at nearby restaurants before we arrived, and after we arrived she helped us considerably further with maps, directions, and touring advise. The breakfasts at Fransvliet itself were fantastic ---- inventive, delicious, as filling as we wanted, just... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Fransvliet Guest House is a tranquil, luxury retreat, only 4 kilometres from the heart of Franschhoek. It is situated on a working farm, growing grapes, olives and figs. Wake up to the call of the birds and in the evening perhaps hear the resident owls calling as they contemplate the night's hunt. Breathtaking mountain views are all around, each one more spectacular than the last. The individually decorated suites are pure luxury, with absolute attention to detail. Soft wineland colours set the tone for a perfect stay. Breakfast is an occasion, every day. Spend time in the newly renovated 65 year old house, either inside or on the veranda, enjoying the view of the pool and the vineyards. Celebrate "the best meal of the day" with either a Continental or a full breakfast that will include seasonal specials. The sparkling pool is at your disposal for those hot lazy afternoons. Relax in the shade with a magazine and an ice cold drink, before you cool off. Lazy winter days are a treat too. Snuggle up in your suite in a comfy armchair with your own personal fireplace - the perfect way to enjoy one of the local bottles of red wine. Meander through the garden, (both indigenous and other) on your way to your suite. Something special will be flowering at all times. In season, luscious figs will be found on the trees, and the scent of lemons may be in the air too. Take an early morning walk around the farm in December. The vines will be green and laden with fruit. In July, a few burgundy coloured leaves and bare sticks have their own attraction. Soak up the 360° view, especially the powerful Simonsberg mountains. ... more   less
